Once again the Brother HL-2270DW is for sale at Newegg for $79.99 plus $1.99 shipping. I have this printer it's a great little general usage printer. Great way to get away from the high cost of inkjets and the clogged cartridges.

Buy a toner refill kit and save the price of expensive cartridges.

Nice. I'm still using the one I got a few months ago for $69.99 shipped. At these prices, you'd be better off buying a new printer when the ink runs out!

Yes there have been better deals on this in the past. Seems like it's always on sale some place. I have also owned this printer for about a year.

I also agree that it's cheaper to buy a whole new printer than the Brother toner cartridge sometimes. Not very GREEN but cheaper. The cost of inkjet cartridges is ridiculous so I went laser printer this time. I have no regrets.
 
i have an old brother all in one laser that I got for 80 bucks a few years ago.

after a few months, the printer reported low toner on the starter cartridge. I did the electric tape over the sensor hole thing, and it's printed another 500 pages easily since then!
 
I have a slightly different model with duplex and I want to chime in that Brother makes excellent laser printers - at least from my experience. I had this baby for 3 years now, and I am STILL running on my first toner cartridge that came with the printer.

Mind you, I print casually, like when I have to print out an odd page from the internet, or when I print my college homework or scanned documents for mom and dad, but still I am sure it accumulated into quite a volume over 3 years. I heard these cartridges are designed to hold less toner than those you buy as a replacement after your 1st one ends. I just dont feel it! I bought my Brother for $120.. or was it $160? And it more than paid for itself compared to my inkjet canon which I used to spend around $60 for every 2-3 months. So I dont have color prints.. Who cares? I rather order color prints from an online service once in a great while than to waste money for ink. Also ink cartridges would dry out on me if I didn't use em. Toner doesn't dry out, and doesn't spoil!

Oh and did I mention my Brother never jammed, even a single time? And I even abused it a little, putting in slightly bent/creased pages that already had text on the other side...

I probably sound like a Brother spokesperson by now, but believe me, I am NOT, I am just so happy with my purchase, and I highly, highly recommend it.

This unit does have duplex printing as well as USB, Ethernet, and wireless connections.

I just wanted to comment about the starter toner cartridges. I got 700 pages out of mine and the printer quit on me. It said it was empty. So I bought a refill converter toner kit for the starter cartridge. One of the things you have to do is dump out the old toner before pouring in the new. I was shocked to see how much unused toner dumped out of that starter cartridge. It looked as much as the refill I was putting in. Anyway I think it's shady how they tell you it's empty WAY before it actually is empty. It's designed to look like it has a much shorter life just so you'll buy another expensive replacement. For $15 I got a refill kit and it was really easy to convert the starter cartridge to a TN-450. I now have in effect the larger TN-450 longer lasting cartridge for the cost of a refill kit.

I don't believe it works with this model. There are, however, other, more involved means of "tricking" the printer into using the full starter toner, instead of stopping short like it's programmed to do. But at this price, you'd likely be better off just buying a new 2270dw when your printer tells you you're out of ink.
 
I've had mine for about 6 months now and love it. I don't think I've even turned on my inkjet since getting the laser printer.

i highly recommend this printer. i've now bought three of them for home, work, and another for my mom.

It's 81.98 at amazon so with a 25 off 75 at Staples it's 56.98 then plus tax. Will they do a price match AND a 25 off 75 as well?

place your order with the coupon and then start up a live chat on staples. should be pretty simple.

They are not telling you the toner cartridge is empty, they are saying it has all been used and some of it has been redeposited in the container. After you print, some of the toner that was not fused onto the paper is returned to the cartridge. It's used toner and not intended for using again. You can use it, by tricking the refill indicator, but the results are poorer than with fresh toner and the life of the printer is shortened. This is how most, if not all, printers work.

interesting. even so, i got my printer for $50 bucks on clearance at staples, damn if i'm spending 50% of that or more on a new cartridge when a bit of electrical tape will get me another 720 pages (current count) :awe:

I'm sorry, OP, I have to make one more reply. I'm looking for a new laser printer at the moment. About 1000-3000 pages a year, primarily text from science/medical journal articles, so looking for something with sharp text. The Samsung CLP-300 I had before printed horrible text so I'm over that. How is the print quality on your Brother printer?

Also, instead of refilling the included toner cartridge, has anyone tried third-party cartridges, such as this (http://www.concordsupplies.com/brother-tn450-toner-cartridge/95226.html)?
 
I've got an older Brother cheapo laser I've have for years. Thing works great. I've refilled it numerous times with the dirt cheap ebay universal toner kits without a problem. It's saved me hundreds of dollars in ink.
 
I get my refills from Inkowl.com. Very reasonable refills and works great. You can also buy a flag gear kit to convert your starter toner to a regular one.
