Brother HL-1440 onsale with coupon at Staples for 99 bucks

Just picked one up. One toner cartrige will last 3k pages. Way more than I need and new toner is only 53 bucks. Cannot beat this deal. Quality Laser printer cheap.

Be aware that in the past the HL-14xx series have had issues with the drum units. Fortunately, they can be replaced when and if they do fail, however.

I hope you mean replacing the printer when the drum fails because it'd be pretty stupid to buy an expensive drum unit when the printer can be had for less -- in this case, $99.

The drums are fairly inexpensive (if one knows where to look), and relatively easy to replace. But yes, replacing the printer altogether is certainly a option as well. Personally wouldn't purchase one to begin with, but that might just be individual preference.

The above issue with the HL-1440 is rather well documented. A search through any search engine should yield a wealth of information.

But what's the point when you consider the fact that the drum costs more than the printer these days? 😉

I have one that was good for months, then all of a sudden started spitting out pages with greyish lines all over them. I haven't picked up a new toner to see if that will do the trick, and I'm def. not spending the cash on the drum...

But still, it was an awesome printer while it printed out clean pages~

Edit: And where does one find this inexpensive drum? 😀

I have this printer next to me. Have had it for almost 3 years. I bought 4 generic toners a month after I purchased the printer. I had, until 2 weeks ago, printed over 10,000 pages on the initial 4600 cartridge. Just got bored last week and replaced it.

I just think this printer is fantastic.

Just my 2c,

Leigh

For those interested, Staples plans to have the Konica Minolta 1350W on sale starting January 9th for $99.98 after a $50.00 Instant Rebate.

Link to above advertisement here.

Also, the HP LaserJet 1012 is an excellent budget laser, and can often be found at or near the $100 mark.

Do all of these printers mentioned in this thread come with their toners? Or do you have to purchase them separately? If they have to be purchased separately, then the price of the toners should be included in this deal. I've been looking into getting a laser printer, since they have become more affordable, since I mostly print in b/w anyways. If toner is included, then this is a great deal!

Most include at the very least a starter toner cartridge (1,500 to 5,000 page yield or less). Some even a standard cartridge (5,000 to 10,000 page yield or more). Depends on the manufacturer, and the model.

Easiest way to know is to simply consult the manufacturer site for an "in the box" description. Most list the included cartridge yield.

Where can you find the HP LaserJet 1012 for near $100? The cheapest I can find it anywhere is closer to like $170+

Like many items, sales (and for that matter, prices) are very cyclical.

Peruse through these search results for an idea of the price range. Generally the better deals range from $100 to $130 AR.

The HL-1440 product page has been removed from the Brother site; perhaps the model has been discontinued.

However, in Google's cache of the feature page of what is included, the TN-430 cartridge is listed, which is rated for 3,000 pages.

I had no problem accessing it right here Brother HL-1440 from googles search.
Believe their site underwent a bit of restructuring over the weekend (notice the above URL does not contain "USA" in the TLD), and believe the HL-1440 has indeed be removed for some reason. The address in my browser's history included the "usa", but now leads to a defunct page. One will also notice that selecting links at the top of the above page ("USA" link, "Printers" link, etc) leads back to the "brother-usa.com" domain. Visiting the main site (www.brother.com), and selecting "USA" leads to "brother-usa.com", where the HL-1440 has been removed. Strange, and a bit of power web management on Brother's part, I'm afraid.

In any event, the feature page of the above functioning URL (this one) shows precisely the same box contents as the original page: the TN-430 cartridge.
