Every single time I've gotten pulled over, things went easier when I didn't demand like your brother did. I once got pulled over for being told I was going 64 in a 50 when my cruise was set to 55 or 56 late at night. Best to just cooperate and be nice and when they ask you give your case (and they'll give you the opportunity in my experience) then give it.

Maybe it's because the many cops I had run-ins with were nicer than most, but they leave me with a warning.

In my opinion, you either have to get a lawyer or pay the fine. There's really nothing else that could be said or done.

By refusing to hand over the license and registration, your brother made the officer extremely uneasy. The officer doesn't know then if your brother is a fugitive or thief or whatnot and the officer has probably heard plenty of stories of traffic stops that end with the officer being shot by a felon who was pulled over in what appeared to be a routine traffic stop.

you hit the nail on the head there. not giving the officer your license and registration is like saying you have something to hide from the officer.

give him your documents and cooperate, then plead your case. the officer is less likely to be a jerk if u cooperate and make his job easier.

so very true. More people talk themselves into a ticket than out of one.

My dad is an acupuncturist, and his place is next to a police station, so he treats ALOT of cops. Apparently, they have this card so that if you are pulled over for minor speeding, you can just flash the card, and they let you go with only a warning. I've seen him do it over a dozen times.

It's a PBA card and no it does not always work.

He only does minor speeding, and he apparently gets higher level cards. It has never failed him yet. He has like 15 of them.

For local cops it typically works fine.

Get on the highway and state troopers are notorious for not giving a damn even if you're actually a cop.

there are some idiots in here. and FoBoT, i don't know you but you seem like you're the kind that goes 55 in a 65. some of us drive the speed limit. i can only wonder what you would say if you ever got a ticket.

OP, ticketassassin.com is a good site. i referred to it when i got a ticket (it was kinda pointless though cause the cop didn't show up). also, just because a cop doesn't show up doesn't mean the case gets dismissed. my citing officer didn't show up and the trial date was postponed because the cop called DAY OF and stated he had a family emergency.

chances are he'll state the certifications he has for using the radar and his radar's calibration date if he used one. your bro can ask specific questions about the incident or about his car while in court to see what the officer's response is. if he's real sure of his answers, have him ask a few trivial questions about the area/weather/"what was i wearing/what was my hair style" and see what he says. if he's unsure of himself, be like if you don't know then how are you so sure about the other stuff. it really won't help too much but it may help some. go to ticketassassin.com for sure though.

Might also make him look like an idiot, because it's rather irrelevant. :p

What they usually do in these cases is write on the ticket say 70 in a 65 but in the comments put 'ACTUAL SPEED 75'.

In court this makes is sound like they were already giving you a break.
This doesn't make any sense. So you're guaranteeing yourself a ticket by arguing, but since it says "Actual speed 75" on it you feel like you won a moral victory?

I admit I speed alot, however; two of the times I have been pulled over I was not and still recieved a ticket.

Cops have too much freedom to arbitarily give out tickets to people they don't find favor with.

What was the ticket for? Speeding? Or did you have a taillight out, and then when you started antagonizing the cop he tacked on no seatbelt and expired registration?

Maybe if instead of asserting your right to be an argumentative jerk every time you get pulled over, you were to be polite, you might get out of more tickets.

He never makes sense. I believe he once stated that he knew a ton of cops in Downers Grove, where I used to live. I would love for him to post that actual information, but he won't. He likes to talk out of his ass alot.

well, gee, why would the cop not find favor with someone he never met, unless they gave him a reason right off the bat?

I signed the ticket then when to court and asked for traffic school. Four hours and some cash for traffic school, I was able to avoid some points on my DMV and surchages on my insurance.

The moral of the story is if the cop says you are speeding and he doesn't want to show you, nothing you can do about it but to give him DD/registration and sign the ticket. Just don't get smart and make him even more mad.

What difference would it make if the cop was mad or not? It's not like your obedience got you out of anything.
