Brokerage C.O.D?

Just got a notice of a package that I ordered from the US. It's being delivered by ups. Now I've already paid for the items and for shipping and handling. 50 for the items and 24 for s&h. The ups info notice slip though mentions a $40 amount under Brokerage COD. Seems this is for customs fees or something? Ok I understand paying customs fees I guess but 40 bucks?!! That would amount to over 110 for a 50 dollar package!! The thing weighs under 3 lbs. Anyone know what this charge is likely for?

Oh yeah these are arcade cabinet parts.

OK it seems to be handling fees that UPS charges that are comopletely seperate from the S&H that the original shipper charges (they never mentioned anything in addition to the S&H). I have to say this is bullshit but there's nothing I can probably do about it. Taking a look at the shipping options they offered I don't think there was a cheaper option was there?

I chose UPS standard. Would FedEx have been cheaper? And obviously I can't pick it up.

SOMEBODY has to pay our debt. Thanks for stepping up.

back on topic: Call the merchant, and ask what the heck?

Never order stuff from the us if they will ship ups. Do a google search and you will find tons of similar stories.

I've gotten brokerage fees mailed to me after the package was delivered. I somehow always manage to misplace them. USPS to whatever mail you guys have is the way to go.

Edit:
I see USPS isn't an option. I don't know which is better :^/

Many times they refuse to deliver unless you pay the customs release fees first.

If you don't want to pay the fees, ask the seller to list either a smaller value or send it as a gift, but in both cases, if something happens, you're probably fucked, as the insurance on the package will be lower, and if something happened and its sent as gift, they won't do shit for you.
