Updated the first post. Can anyone confirm it works? I'm at work, so I can't until later.

Holy mother fuc*ker.

I have never downloaded DLC from GFWL before, didn't know what a bitch it would be to get it to install. I got the Pitt and Broken Steel, but they didn't show up in my Datafiles like the expansions for Oblivion did. So, I still went ahead, and see if they worked. Obviously, they didn't.

So I ended up googling the problem, and it turns out I messed myself because I installed Fallout 3 on my G drive, and GFWL ended up on my F. Had to track down and copy the files over manually. However, it looks like achievements won't work. Oh well... Not an MS hater, but this is a crappy service.

I heard this iteration was actually good. Can anyone who's played it confirm? Is it worth having to go through GFWL to get it?

The game itself works fine for me, but the achievements still seem to be broken. I've completed "Attack from Above" and "Shock Value", I got the points for it, but the actual achievements are still locked. Not the end of the world, but not 100% fixed.

So far, it's more of an extension to the original game as opposed to a new zone or or area like the past DLC. So, if you want more Fallout 3, you'll like it.

On the downside:

- I imagine that I would have to roll a new character if I actually want to hit lvl 30 as it doesn't seem like there are enough quests left for me to do and hit 30.

- Having completed the original game and both DLC, it's still ridiculously easy. I was under the impression that Bethesda was gearing this DLC to "endgame" players, but so far it's incredibly easy as a level 20+ with Chinese Stealth armor and pretty much any of the small guns.

That kinda sucks, but for $10 it's a low risk gamble I guess. Hopefully GFWL it's a total chore to get through since that will kill the deal for me, it doesn't matter how cheap it is if I have to fuck around forever to get it to work.

Thanks for the info.

I'm halfway to level 22 after completing 2 quests from Broken Steel. After I'm done though, I'll still have The Pitt, so it shouldn't be a problem getting to 30. However, I'm a bit miffed that the couple hundred people/mutants that I killed after level 20, before Broken Steel, didn't count.

The only challenge for me now are deathclaws. Otherwise, I have 300 stimpacks on standby in my inventory. Oh, and 10000 chaingun/minigun rounds.

Liking it a lot so far. I'm a bit "sad" that this is the last announced expansion. I thought there were more. Oh well, can't wait for Vegas.

Once it showed up on GFWL it was easy for me. Give MS the 800 points, download, and play Fallout 3. About 30 seconds after I got into FO3 I got a message saying that Broken Steel had been added and my level cap raised to 30. I swung back over to Project Purity, finished the main quest, and went from there. I have the game installed though Steam on C:, and all the DLC is on C: as well. Maybe that makes things easier.

800 points.. Can you buy 800 points through GFWL, or do you have to buy them in 500 pt increments like on the 360?

Ok, so I read you can buy them in 400 pt increments.. I'm on my work machine now, so I can't test anything.

Anyway, I just remembered I removed some GFWL files from my Fallout 3 install dir to help fix crash issues, since those files were actually causing problems. So i'm just not going bother with it all at this point..

I stopped playing Fallout 3 a few weeks ago, but I still highly recommend to modify it to get more challenge, the vanilla difficulty even on the highest difficulty setting is laughable once you get to level 15+, and you'll generally end up using about the same weapons for the whole game.

If you use mods it can all change drastically. If you simply want more and tougher enemies then use Martigen's Mutant Mod, which includes lots of new variants of already existing mutants (not by name, but by skin color and/or size for instance), but there's also new variants (by name and capabilities), such as the Deathclaw Mothers and the Gargantuan (that's basically where a Behemoth runs to for protection when he's afraid of the player, you don't want to meet one of those things on your way unless you love death punishments).

Honestly it's just not worth the hassle to me. I don't want to have to figure out how to restore the GFWL files I deleted (if need be), figure out how and where to get points, then install a bunch of garbage to buy the damn thing. It's too bad bethsoft had to go with GFWL for F3 addons.. From what i've used of that system it's absolute junk. Of course that may just be me, but give me something that at least makes sense, like Steam, or even better, GOG.

The whole concept of releasing something digitally and then making it intentionally difficult to obtain is absurd IMO. MS may have designed the points system to save themselves from constantly having to adjust prices for different currency's and whatnot, but they did it at the expense of ease of use for the consumer. They'd be much better off making it easy for the customer to obtain stuff, like the ability to use a damn credit card to buy stuff.. You can use a CC to buy fucking points, but not to actually buy a game? I mean come on.. If the back end part is harder to maintain by adding that feature, then so be it. They're a big company with lots of money, they can make it work. What we have now is a clusterfuck system where you have to buy MS points that only work through the MS system, and in lots of situations you're going to be stuck with extra points you don't even want. What a pile of ass.

A pirated copy would be about 100% easier to get up and running, which frustrates me because I don't pirate games. The people who do however are just laughing at us poor fools struggling though the arcane GFWL system just to play some shitty addon. Maybe if they release the addon as a standalone retail disc, like they did with Shivering Isles, i'd consider buying it.

/rant :)

Sad but true. I bought mine legally, and had to find a workaround to get it to work. Google brought up a bunch of torrent/illegal sites of guides on how to get it work properly with the exact files I needed help with (i.e. where to put non-.esm files). Oh well, I also found the exact path where GFWL hides DLC from 'legal' channels, so it kinda balances out.

Ha I had to do the same thing. Its funny after following the pirated copy directions and this "fix" I found I'm way less prone to crashes.

Finished it. Think I got a good 6/7 hours out of it. Overall, I have to say it was ok. The new armor is pretty mehm aside from the slightly better stats. Tesla cannon is essentially a gauss-gun/replacement missile launcher. New flame-ball throwing thing is an ammo whore for the damage it does.

I wish there were more Enclave to fight infact. The osprey dropoffs make for the best battles, and most hilarious mini-nuke uses.
