So I have a Hitachi T7K250, and I've had it for a while. While replacing my motherboard today, i unplugged it and then tried to plug it in with one of the new style cords with the new mobo. anyways, I realized that somehow the 'L' shaped piece of black plastic under the pins of the HD had broken off in the old cord. Amazingly, I managed to stick the pins into the old cord, and it's currently working fine, but obviously it's not very sturdy. Can I have this sort of thing repaired? Is this considered under warranty or not? If anyone has had experience with this, please let me know.

Thanks

DUnno about chaintech

but I once snapped the plastic heatsink clip off my cpu and i had to rma it thru my local oem shop

took 3 weeks and i dunno how they even repaired it due to the fact it was user error installing it.

Best of luck but a company like chaintech, I doubt it man, SoL imho

oh, i've already replaced the mobo, cause it sucks ass in lots of ways. Anyways, the broken part is on the hard drive itself.

the clip on the HD?

Well Hitachi is a pretty reputable laptop HD manufacturer

How on earth you're going to explain it I don't know.l

Best chance is to call them and tell them what happened.... Some reps are more forgiving than others.

It was user error anyways... so go and try you never know.

Unfortunately, SATA hard drives do have problems with the connectors breaking if you don't put the cable on correctly. I've heard stories about this before. You're not the first to have this problem!

I hope this link helps!

If you want to filter through the results yourself:

I like IDE hard drives better in that their connectors and cables are more sturdy. They actually require force to attach. SATA, on the other hand, requires too little force. I hate the power cables the most. Those things are a pain in the %$# to attach!

I hope this helps you!

My brother had the same thing happen to his Seagate. Still works... and he's been using it like that for about a year now.
