I received an A64 3800X2 with a broken pin, it works just fine but it doesn't want to post when I have my ram in the two dual channel slots.

Where can I get this repaired? Also, is there anyone in the Bay Area willing to help out?

I've read some older threads of people repairing pins that have broken off, made this thread to see if anyone in my area can help me out.

go to some jewellery store to get it repaired, btw, another method that someone used (in another thread) was just shove a staple if you lost the pin

im guessing that pin was for the 2nd channel on memory, thats why it wont work on dual channel anymore

mine was severely bent... as in almost off

used tweezers to straighten it all up, also had to push it in a LITTLE bit...

it all works now :) - benched it to ensure performance wasnt lost :p

i've heard of people using staples, you could give it a go dude

Socket 754 users aren't compaining of lame performance, despite being limited to single channel memory. Not many apps require killer bandwidth. And I guess the Socket 754 crowd would take dual core over dual channel, given a choice ;)

Anyway, I hope you find a satisfactory fix/repair.

I just repaired a broken pin on a s754 3000+ and it wasn't easy. I totally replaced the pin because the broken one was lost. It didn't work at all without the pin, now it works great :) I used a piece of copper wire, bent the one end into an L shape (very small L shape, just enough to give it more contact) and soldered it on. I took the original plate where the pin was off first so I would have direct contact to the solder point.

If you really want it fixed I'd take it to a jeweler - I'd offer to try and repair it for you but I'd be afraid of damaging someone else's CPU. Also if the broken pin isn't on the outside it would make it much harder to do and I don't know if I could do it in that case - thie pin that I fixed on this CPU was on the very corner. My friend got this CPU for free so he didn't care really if I messed up and broke it more because it was non-functional at that point anyway.

i had the same problem with an s754 3000+. it arrived that way, and ZZF would not RMA it since it had a broken pin. i stated well, it came with that way, what was i to do? they assured me it wasn't... whatever. i mean, the pin was about 3 rows in, and none of the pins around it were damaged/bent. how the hell was i supposed to have accomplished that?

anyway, i used a paperclip - cut it to length so it sat in the socket and pushed up against the cpu when the cpu was installed, and it's been running fine for almost 2 yrs now....
