Broken Monitor?

I've got a broken 19 inch Compaq V90 monitor. The screen is blank whenever I plug it in. It's not underwaranty anymore. Is there an easy way for me to find out how badly it's damaged? If it's something simple like a bad cable I'd like to salvage it. Or should I just give up and throw it in the dumpster?
