Hi All:
In January 2008 I purchased a custom HP Pavillion dv6000 directly from HP with no insurance. Other than a few quirks I have no major complaints about the notebook. Being backheavy with the extended battery the computer took a nosedive off the side of the bed and onto my wooden floor. When I picked it back up to examine any possible damage i noticed 2 things:
* A small crack originating near one of the hinges
* The display looks likes it is cracked in have and shattered!! physically it looks fine, I am not sure of the anatomy of an LCD, but the damage seems to be behind the screens plastic cover
So my question is how I should proceed. I had a few ideas, but not sure how plausible or cost effective each one would be:
1. I couldnt find anything on HPs policy or prices on repairs of products purchased from them. I have skimmed across a few posts about their customer service not being the best, although I have no personal experience with them outside of my order. Is there anyway I could return this laptop for partial credit towards a new one?
2. Purchase a replacement LCD, from my quick research they range from $250-$400. I usually trust myself with repairing electronics of my own, just never tackled this type of project specifically. Thats a good chunk of money for repairs, and part of me tells me to just use it towards a new computer.
I am open to suggestions. Thanks in advance for any advice and assistance.
