so my laptop took a dump, and i am hoping i can somehow fix it. I dont really want to go out and buy a brand new one. I have a ECS A535. It will not power on. I came home one day to find it off, and it wouldnt restart. the light on the power supply is solid until i plug it into the laptop, then it starts flashing quickly and randomly. I have had the power supply tested, and it is in good working order. Where should i look next? is it possible to breathe new life into it, or are laptops unfixable?
 
Check the RAM, that is usually the first culprit. if you ahve two sticks in there, remove one and try powering it on. Then, if the problem persists, remove the other and replace the first. If that fixes it, then you know. However, if you only have one stick of ram.... see if you can get hold of some from somebody (or buy it on the egg).

If the RAM doesnt fix it then you probably have a more serious problem that would not be as easy to diagnose or to fix.
 
it has two sticks of ram, but im not sure where to find the oem stick. i pulled the expandable memory and its still doing it. pull the hd, still doing it, pulled some sort of card (not sure what it was lol) still nothing. i wish this was easy like a laptop. it almost seems when its plugged in it shorts out. where does it go from the power supply?> the mobo?
 
If it has a seperate DC powerboard it could be an easy and somewhat inexpensive fix. If not, you'll probably have to replace the motherboard which could be pricey. Best thing to do is try and find a service manual that shows step by step of how to take it apart and that should show a parts list so you can see if the DC board is speprate or not. If it is, there's hope it can be fixed.
 
Sounds like either the power components (DC board) are defective or there's a short circuit somewhere.
 
i found this same model on ebay, refurbished, for about $250. Will it be cheaper to just get a new one if it turns out i need say a new mobo?
