Broken laptop LCD screen

My Gateway Solo 1450's laptop's screen no longer functions. The backlight comes on when the screen is activated, but no image appears. I updated all drivers, went through some nasty tech support with Gateway, and they told me to send it to them. But it's past warranty by a month, so I'm stuck fixing it. Works fine with an external CRT monitor. Thanks.
