Broken HDMI and display port question...

I had my laptop hooked up to my TV. Child trips over cord and the HDMI port on my laptop breaks.

The female port connected to the videocard broke off completely.

My question has to do with replacement. I can get at the card. Would it be wise to find a replacement port and solder it on? If so, where can I find a replacement piece? If not, sadly I am stuck with no DVI option.

Question two. I have an ATI 6970. It uses mini display port. I have had to wrap the cord with tape and anchor it to the top of my tower because the weight of the cord pulls down causing disconnect and the like. Is this a common issue? What steps have you taken to resolve it?

Getting the motherboard out of the laptop is one thing. Soldering the new connector on is another. Your TV won't accept VGA?

I can get everything out of the laptop no problem. The model is a Toshiba Quosmio 780 I THINK.

My PC monitor does support VGA, but the picture is horrible.

I can get a picture of where it is on the laptop, but that will have to be tomorrow =)
