Broken fan?

it seems the fan on my motherboard is somehow broken or off center. after a bit of running time it starts to make this ultra annoying grinding noise. i can open the case and touch it a bit while its running and itll settle down, but then eventually start up again. is there anything i can do to fix this?

The best thing is to replace the fan, preferably with something a little better than stock. Zalman makes an awesome passive cooler that's basically a nice big heatsink that will replace the stock cooler.

Check it out on their website. There are lots of alternatives too - just google northbridge cooler.

yeah that sounds like a good fix for it, but is there anything i can do for a temp fix because its end of term and i dont have alot of time for that sorta thing. on top of the fact that ive never done anything like that before. is there a way to turn off the fan other then simply unplugging it? and if i were able to turn it off would the heatsink be enough and would the fan blades (made of plastic melt) if they werent spinning?

thanks in advance.

Peel off the sticker real carefully and put a "drop" of 3-in-1 oil in it, then put the sticker back on.

will that really work? i should mention that when its making the grinding noise its not spinning at its normal speed. in the bios it reads 0rpm so it moves when u look at it but like...slow. so will that 3 in 1 oil trick work?

i took off the sticker off the fan and there is opening to put 3in1 oil in... anyone have any other ideas? is there a program that i can dl that mayeb controls fan speed so i can like turn it down halfway.
