Broken CPU fan holder.

Hello,

I've a different problem. My Celeron CPU fan and heatsink came with the fan being attached by the steel clips. While removing this CPU fan, I accidently broke the plastic holder on one side of the CPU socket. Now I cannot attach my heatsink & fan to the socket 370. Now I'm left with the fan dangling without being attached to the Celeron 366 CPU. Everything else is fine. How can I make use of this fan? Is it possible to apply some kind of glue to attach this fan to the CPU.

Thank you in advance for your valuable advice.🙂

If you tried to use the remaining lug on that side, the pressure would be uneven and you most likely wouldn't make good thermal contact between the CPU and heatsink.

Only one real soloution that I can see: Arctic Silver Thermal epoxy. This would be fairly permanent, but how often are you taking your HSF off your CPU? If the HSF works fine, there's not much need to mess with it. Otherwise, get a decent copper HS and use the AS epoxy to hold the two together. This probably isn't the ideal situation, but unfortunately I don't see any other options.

I take it , not being too familiar with your board, that it is the center lug that broke .If it has (before the accident} 3 lugs on each side ,then you could purchase a HS/fan with a clip that has 3 holes on the clip. I had this happen to me on my previous board and the combo i went with was the Dragon Orb3 by Thermaltake. There are others but i can`t remember what they were. Hope this helps .🙂

Thank you guys for your speedy replies. I'll go get a copper HSF and glue it with epoxy.

Thank you once again.
