broken brightness adjustment

in games, such as enemy territory and call of duty, the calibrate brightness slider does absolutely nothing, it may have happened after installing the 4.4 ati drivers.

I went back to 4.3. 4.4 had too many crashes, loss of monitor signal infinate loops.
