Those levers are about the lamest things I've seen in PCs for a long time.

Don't worry about it, the card will still work fine, the lever is mostly useless even when it isn't broken most of the time it's just inaccessable instead of being useful for its intended usages.

Just make sure the card is in the slot fully / evenly, isn't crooked side to side or front to back,
and it'll be fine. Of course screw it down nicely.

If anything you'll probably be thankful it is broken if you ever have to take the card OUT of the slot since a lot of the time you may have trouble reaching down there to release the lever.

It doesn't really help retain the card in the slot to any significant degree that I've noticed.

It just looks sadly broken if you try to sell the motherboard and it makes one unhappy that one has broken one's new motherboard. I've got one or two broken ones too, and have suffered no real adverse effects at all.

Yup, like QuixoticOne said, you will be better off with that thing broken. Every time I take my videocard out from the Pci Express slot, I have to struggle with that little plastic junk.

What are you guys talking about?!?! The lever is vital! It's a piece of non-conductive plastic with absolutely no electrical transfer whatsoever! How on earth will his card function without it?

This is how I broke mine about 2 years ago. No problems at all with it gone.

I did the same thing about a year and a half ago. No problems. I was even still able to sell that board.

Not much to worry about really...

I'm glad I'm not the only one with problems with these. Some of them are ok, like where you just have to press from "above" the card (aka, the side of the card that the heatsink is not on) to release. But I've had ones where you have to press from the bottom or in towards the slot...I have fairly small hands and I can't even fit them in there to push that thing with the cards heatsink in the way.

On my EVGA 590 AMD board, I actually CUT THEM OFF ON PURPOSE. You cannot get to them at all without taking the entire board out, if you have a dual slot card like the 8800GTX.

They're a waste of plastic.

You guys feared better them my friend who proceeded to rip the pci-e slot right off the board because he was only used to AGP cards and didnt realize it was latch down.

I hate them but they are needed here because systems get jarred constantly. Peripherals will work fine but can be lifted out of the slot easier without it.

Yeah, these levers are annoying to work with. Although I would keep them on there just to maintain the resale value of the board.

This is one thing I like about DFI motherboards actually. Most of them don't have these levers at all and instead have an additional slot there to hold that part of the card in place.

I wish mine would break. Even with small hands it's hard to get to when there's a heatsink covering it.

How funny...I broke one off on my last build with my 2900XT when I first installed it...Didn't want to say a word about it to anyone because I thought I was the only one to do it...Funny reading that I'm nowhere near being the only one...I thought it was a serious bonehead & carelessness move on my part, but apparently, I'm not the only one who thinks that plastic POS is unnecessary...lol...It's great to hear I'm in company with several others...lol

I figured it was there mainly for aesthetics when the card worked fine without it...
