RIP Dell Inspiron B130.

It was faithful over the 2.5 years I've had it, never let me down. It sucks, too, because the AC adapter finally crapped out on me and I just spent 80$ on a new one.

I hastily grabbed the top of the screen with my thumb and index finger to pick it up, something I've done hundreds of times.. I guess this time I squeezed a little too hard, because the LCD cracked. There's a quarter sized black splotch in the upper right hand side, about the 1 o'clock position. It's still totally usable, but now that its cracked, it won't last much longer. Just moving the laptop around, I can see the stress there. It's actually interesting, watching the black splotch. Pixels go on and off, and flicker.. red, white, green, blue.. It's like another universe. :Q

Oh well.

So are there any Dell deals going on this weekend? ;)

Are you against refurbs?

Dell's Outlet regularly has 10% and 15% coupons. We got two 1720s through it for less than $1,000 total, and both are fairly loaded. You can get lower end ones for about $400 shipped with a coupon.

Hmm. Interesting.

Not inherently against them, but I do like the idea of a brand new one.. ;) I bought this on a whim, and it hasn't given me a single problem since I've had it. Apparently some of these models have battery problems..

I'd like to get something that will last another 2-3 years if possible. It was and will be moderately abused, riding around in a car.

I paid ~550$ for it.

Lenovo has new R series notebooks in their outlet starting at $550. You can snag a T series for as little as $650.

I suggest you buy the most expensive laptop you can afford. If you know you paid a lot of money for it, you'll be less likely to use the fragile display screen as a carry handle.

I still can't believe any one would pick up a laptop that way. If I ever see anyone pick up a laptop by the screen, they're getting bitch slapped ;)

I see people do it all the time, but they're students who had their parents buy it for them.
