it's not even that misleading. I have a window in the bedroom, which is in the back, and it broke.

Weird. I must have old school windows. When I break the glass I just get a piece of glass. Put the glass in place and the putty stuff around the perimeter to keep it in place. Does no one have that type anymore?

(I also occasionally need to replace a broken rope for the counterweights.)

When I moved into my old house it must have had 10 cracked windows. I used to be pretty good at cutting my own glass and installing them with glazing points and putty. I think it was about 5 years after I replaced the last one that we replaced all the windows with vinyl.

I guess there are companies out there that will trim your old wood windows to accept modern double pane glass and all the seals around the edges that you get when you go with vinyl/fiberglas to make them just as energy efficient as replacement windows.

If you have vinyl windows, you cannot just replace the glass as there is gas between the panes. You would probably have to replace the entire window. If it is a wood window, the pane can easily be replaced.
