Just bought a Acer 532h netbook last night. This netbook is able to handle upto 720p videos just fine. Anything over that the netbook has problems playing it. Mostly to the fact of placing all the work on the processor.

I know there is a addon "broadcom hd accelerator" card. That I can buy and install inside the netbook. That will let me play 1080p videos by taking the load off the processor. But I tryed looking on newegg for the device but can't find it. Unless I'm typing in the wrong text to search for it. Here is the link of the device I'm searching for.

These look very compelling!

How would one find out if their Netbook has the appropriate PCI-E slot?

is your netbook based on intel ion with the 945 chipset? chances are that you have the slot. your atom is not going to suddenly peg at 0% utilization, however. expect something in the 30's or low 40s.

Try looking up your netbook on the net or your user guide. Just upgraded my netbook's memory to 2GB today. Plus ordered the broadcom hd accelerator today for my netbook. Once the package shows up at my house. I just might do a video about it and upload it on youtube.

You have to be careful as well, because sometimes they come with an extra slot, but it's only hooked up to the USB bus, and isn't hooked up to a PCI-e lane. For example, if your laptop comes with an expansion slot meant for a WWAN card, it's probably USB interface.

I have a Asus eee PC 1005pe. It has the newer Atom N450.

then you definitely have the slot. unfortunately it's being used by your wifi controller. someone tried removing the wifi card and found the crystalHD card too large for the ASUS. I think the Samsung NC10 and HP Mini can fit it.

mmm... paying 60$ and voiding your warranty (by opening it up) to make a netbook play HD video seems a bit much when you can go and get a CULV laptop. There are some nice 11 and 13 inch CULV based core2duo laptops that weigh 3 pounds and last 6 to 12 hours on a single battery charge. And cost 400-500$

i'm not telling him to do it. i'm just showing him what can be done, and illustrating that the samsung can fit full-sized mini pcie cards. i wouldn't recommend buying a netbook for any purpose at all. there's just too much multimedia and multitasking going on in modern mobile devices for $300-400 atom machines to make sense. i like atom for small NAS and thats pretty much it.

6 to 12 hours is a pretty large spread. which is it?

The netbook I own you just remove a small cover. That's on the bottom on the netbook and install the addon card. Which will not void the warranty at all by doing so. Plus I got the addon card for only $22 dollars total from ebay. If it don't work in my netbook for some unknown reason I won't be out much.

So far the battery is lasting little over 8 hours worth. That's just viewing websites, forums and searching google for info. Best thing is the netbook is very light weight which I like alot. Comes in handy if you do house calls for PC repair.

Yea, I found that to be the case that only logicsupply sells it in the usa. That's when I went to ebay and found it for cheaper price.
