Has anyone used Comcast's cable modem service? If so, do you recommend it? I'm going to be moving from a Time Warner/RR area into Comcast land and I don't know if I should get Comcast's broadband or DSL. I'm going to be in an apartment in the 86th & Ditch (NW side) area, do you think Comcast's network is saturated there?

Thanx in Advance!

I used to work for Comcast. Don't get it. Seriously, don't. Get DSL even if it's more expensive. Please.... for the love of god, run.

So, what yer telling me is, basically, that I should probably pass on Comcast even if DSL costs me my left nut... ;) Not that I'm doubting you, but is Comcast really that bad?

I had Comcast cable in the Pike township area for more than a year and never had any problems with it. They installed it quickly and I don't remember more than one or two instances of downtime.

Their policies blow. Their support boundaries blow. Their require training for technicians REALLY blows. They have a contract with AOL. They have plans for making tiered service to an extreme: regulating something like 5GB download and 1GB upload per month for the lowest service, etc. It's going to be horrible in the future. :( Atleast, that's what the management was talking about when I worked for them back in February.

Wow! Never knew there were some ATers around where I'm at (also in pike twsp)

As far as comcast, I say that for the price, it's better than DSL as long as you get at least basic cable (they they are charging $60/month from non-sub). Where I'm at, which is not too far from where you are, it's been pretty stable. I haven't had a hick-up this whole year until this week when there was a problem with one of their servers and was fixed the next day. You also may not qualify for DSL since the centeral office is like 2-3 miles away from you.

Comcast may not be the best broadband ISP, but that is pretty much one of a few choices you have.

Comcasts download seems to be bout the same as RR,maybe a little faster, but their upload is capped at 128k compared to RR at 365k. Comcasts pings are a little higher and there seems to be a little more packet loss(lag) when playing games online. This is on the southside of Indy.

Cool, thanx for the rapid response gentlemen.

BTW, w/so many ATers in Indy we should have an ATers' night out or some other kind of social event.
