Broadband over Gas

The ground beneath cities is so chock full of pipes and cables that there isn't much room for more, hence they're using existing pipes for a new service. In... I think Phoenix? they're running fibop lines through the sewers 😛

wasn't there something along the lines of "broadband over power lines" a while back? Whatever happened to that?

I would somewhat understand this is the gas wasn't moving, but how are they sending siganls through it when the gas is moving?

Fvking geniuses is what htey are....

electromagnetic signals require no medium.

lol, something tells me they probably use the pipe itself as the means of transport ...........

That wouldn't be such a great idea, no? those pipes are probably rusty as hell, at least on the outside, and probably have infinite resistance when added together

I can't figure it out. Are they using the pipe as a medium? Or are they sending wireless signals through the gas? Or are they simply running fiber using the existing lines as conduit? No matter what, it's strange.

Why do you think you are so much smarter than the team of engineers that developed this and the venture capitalists that funded it?

Good points.... 😕

Well, I dunno. They're gas pipes, the joints can't be leaky/weak and they may be rusty on the outside, but there's gotta be plenty of material left.

Maybe it is feasable.

Bold: Um if the joints are leaky/weak then the gas company has much MUCH bigger problems then if some guy looking at porn sees a hickup in his connection...

Yeah, my point exactly...

I'm sure they do present resistance, but so does miles of copper wire...

They're running the wires inside the pipes is all

Er... n/m, I went back and did more than skim over the articles 😛 😱 Sounds pretty cool.

Anyway, in some places they're running fiber-optic cables through existing sewer pipes, guess I assumed this was the same thing.
