British Police: Hitting on Women is Now a Hate Crime

A British police force has massively widened its definition of “hate crime” to include acts like wolf whistling and hitting on women.
Nottinghamshire Police, in the north of England, added “misogyny” to its list of motivations for “criminal” acts that can be as trivial as a greeting or text message.
It means that a woman can now report any unwanted interaction with a man to the police and expect to have it treated as a crime.
The widened definition means that women can conceivably report a man for flirting or wolf whistling in the street.

someone post that this can't be real.

True - BBC website

Wolf whistling at a woman can now be treated as a hate crime.
Any offence where a woman is intimidated or targeted by a man can be classed as a crime by police in Nottinghamshire.
It's not a new law, just a new category of an existing one and it's a first for the UK.
Some reckon wolf whistling has become socially acceptable - while others think it's threatening and a serious problem.
So what exactly is new?
Nottinghamshire Police say it will expand its categories in hate crime to include misogynistic incidents.
The definition of misogyny is: hatred, dislike, or mistrust of women, or prejudice against women.
"We've been working with the police for about a year now," explains Melanie Jeffs from Nottingham Women's Centre.
"We had women coming to us saying they had concerns about what was happening to them in public spaces."
Melanie says she's heard a whole range of stories, from men leaning out of car windows to women being followed.
This new strand of hate crime, which records abuse specifically aimed at women, will be added to the already existing five areas: disability, gender identity, race, religion and sexual orientation.

This is something that pleases Kay who's been a victim of a misogynistic incident.
"I just look away and carry on walking," she says.
"I don't think we should be used to it. If a woman feels vulnerable then they should be able to take action against it."
But despite saying that, Kay doesn't think if it happened to her again that she would report it.
She says she would be worried about wasting police time.

So does this mean I can do the reverse to women?

I hate them all staring at my man cleavage:

Well to be honest, anyone who whistles at random women *is* a douchebag.

Meh I disagree. I compliment women like this and have no shame. If she looks good, then she gets my attention and after, thats it. No persuing or harassment. If I do make a comment, its nothing disgusting or resembling a pickup line; say somethign respectful and keep walking. I do tend to keep quiet if the women looks like she is with family, a man or kids though.

And now, in Britain, you're guilty of a hate-crime for doing so.

This is on par with the way the UK and the world is going. I find it stupid that we feel the need to make these laws.

So, in the UK how does one express their interest in another person without the government labeling a hate crime? I guess Tinder must be doing great things as their alternative--but only anonymously and without images.

you have to go to the local government and file a notice of attraction.

once they approve it you get a temporary card that allows you one opportunity for courtship.

but if the woman doesn't punch the card you can be arrested.

if you think this is bad you should see the paper work for sex.

TIL that people think street harassment is 'hitting on' someone.

I'm thinking that some of the people in this thread need to work on their technique!

Whistling at random women and following them down the street whilst making unwanted advances isn't going to get you very far!

I guess in the UK you can discriminate based on sex. It is OK for a woman to hit on men AND women, but not a guy. Or is there some special, special paperwork needed, like a CCW permit?

I chatting with the wife this morning and even she thought the whole thing was asinine. I told her it must have gotten put into place by a group of women NOT getting hit upon.

Arranged relationships for ALL in the UK starting tomorrow.
