Speaking of radiation, I remember watching a scary show about Chernobyl.
They were showing how the Soviet Union would take prisoners out of jail and offer them to go free if they were willing to be dropped by helicopter onto the roof of the building and shovel up graphite from the reactor core and dump it over the side of the building. They only had to work a 90 second shift. They'd jump out of the helicopter with their shovel, quickly run over and take a shovel full of debris, run over and dump it off the side of the building, and jump back in the helicopter. They had a cameraman go on one of those shifts and film the emergency work. The radioactivity was so high that the film came out all scratchy from being exposed by the radiation... they said that in that 90 second shift, each worker absorbed a dose of radiation that was hundred of times higher than you are normally allowed to absorb in a lifetime. After the first month, the majority of the workers, including the helicopter pilots and cameraman were dead.
Seeing the video was pretty scary, especially since you could see the radiation's effect on the film.
