British College Drops Burka/Veil Ban

One of the biggest colleges in Britain has dropped the ban on the burka/veil due to a petition that was signed by some people. They wanted to ban any clothing that would cover the face.

The PM of Britain had supported the ban.

But some 9,000 people signed a petition co-ordinated by the National Union of Students (NUS) Black Students' Campaign against the policy, while hundreds of students had planned to protest against the ban on Friday

Now this is weird and makes no sense considering the history between the two groups based in the Middle East. Why is the black students campaign getting involved?

If people want to cover their faces then they should be able to do it at home but it's completely inappropriate to be doing it at school. It poses a real security threat and isn't even part of the religion.

This is just another failure of multiculturalism and bending over backwards and pandering to special interest groups.

The burka/veil should be banned at schools and hopefully they fight this.

And to answer your question, no...they shouldn't be banned. Burkas/veils and whatever the hell else is not banned at my University and we have yet to have any "security threats" due to people being allowed to wear these types of clothing.

To think you claim to support the freedoms the US Constitution guarantees. Or do you only support the freedoms you deem relevant???

Same here. At both universities that I attended we never had any security problems with people wearing religious clothing.
 
Half of the students in the college I currently work for in Jerusalem are muslim, they don't pose a "security threat" by covering their head.

Its funny, like checking the car's trunk when you enter a shopping center or a mall here. I could have 200kg of explosives under the seats and no one would see.
It is all security theater. Anyway, would banning the covers make their religion go away?
 
How is the veil a security threat? Are you afraid they're going to pack their faces with explosives? That seems needlessly complicated.

The Quran doesn't require the burka/veil and it's a cultural issue of men wanting to control women. It has nothing to do with Islam.

And this covers the face, were not talking about the hijab but the burka/veil and you have no idea who is behind it. It's also completely inappropriate to wear this.
 
Allowing these for photo id as some want is pure retardation, but incorruptible you may want to contrast your concern over potential threats of a covered face with your view that somebody walking around with an ar is not a threat 🙂

If these women choose to wear their jilbabs, veils, or burka it's their right and you can piss off.

Have you ever taken time out of your day to find a nice Muslim lady and ask her how she feels about Burka's and veils? I have. I think you will be surprised by some of the responses you get. Many Muslim women are proud to wear Hijabs/Burkas/etc. It is a cultural dress. In some Muslim countries...yes, this clothing is a way to control a woman's sexuality or whatever, but in many other Muslim countries, women wear it because it means something to them. Just because a woman is wearing a Burka or a Hijab does not mean she is being oppressed.

It would signify us standing in opposition to their violent oppression of woman , by denying a key instrument in that oppression. This whole covering women up would be like Christians making it a religious "thing" for Africans to wear chains, and then having people defend such "religion".

It does not help that in certain neighborhoods of Europe women are attacked for not wearing these things.

Let me get this straight. People should be allowed to carry assault rifles in public places, per your comment in another thread:

The police were wrong in this one and should face punishment for what they did. These guys were no threat and just exercising their rights. What is wrong with the person who called the police?

Yet there are Muslim women that prefer to wear head covering as it protects their face and hair from the elements. So should they be forced not to wear them?

You and Doppel beat me to the punch but I too would love to hear the distinction that he tries to make justifying the one view over the other. I'm sure it will be some diatribe about oppression while ignoring that many many muslim women absolutely wear these with pride for their cultural background.

Incorruptible, unless you can prove that every one of these women is forced to wear them your argument holds no water. If a rifle should cause no security threat concern a piece of fabric certainly should not.
