British cat likes to take the bus.

there is no way a cat could figure out public transit.
Yeah, I call shens too, looks to me like some writer just wanted a story people would actually read 😛

Cats aren't stupid. Once it found out that it's warm and comfortable in that bus, it probably figured out that it's worth waiting for!

Someone better get it a bus pass before animal control nabs it for not paying it's fare, though 🙂

What is so hard to figure out?

Get on object

Object moves to new, desirable location

Get off object?

That wouldn't be hard for a cat to understand.

how would it know which bus to get on.
if that gets on the wrong bus and ends up on the wrong side of town, it wouldn't find its way home.

Smell? Sight? Sound?

Cats posess all the senses we do, and they're far more sensitive. I wouldn't necessarily underestimate a cat's cognitive abilities, either. It is very obvious that they can reason well. Of course, there are some things that they just don't understand - like laser pointers - but that's a given. 😉

Or anything hanging from a string. 😀

I've seen a stray (!) dog using the subway in Bucharest, and it was very comfortable with getting in and out of the train cars... I almost wrote an article about it, after being told by subway employees that the dog is was a regular on a particular route. And I distinctly remember seeing a TV piece about another dog using the tram system in the same European capital...

Therefore, I'm not surprised that a cat would pull a similar stunt... as a cat owner, I came to realize cats are just as intelligent, while much more independent than our canine companions.

Indeed. One of our cats, Darwin, learned to unlock and open our apartment door to get out during the 80s. My wife and I had to place a heavy box in front of the door afterwards.
