They must be proud of such a useless figurehead.

Hardly. I can't wait until we dispose of the morons, although I doubt it'll happen in my lifetime. I can't think of anyone that I know or have met that thinks they're worthwhile.

Fact is they bring in more money to the UK than they spend. If we got rid of them then the UK would lose money on tourism so where's the loss in keeping them?

I belelive it.

my wife wants to go just to see the palace heh. Of course my daughter was thrilled to see a real Queen on TV.

me? I just want to go and drink beer and eat.

How about they keep the Queen seeing as people are so fascinated with her. Stick her in a zoo or something.

:disgust:

I?m proud to have a monarch and I?m proud to be English! The royals are part of our heritage, they?re the reminiscence of our once great empire. Have some respect.

Some of the replies in this thread are a ****** joke!

Who gives a fvck about American history, anyway.

The empire days are long gone and we don't need a monarchy to remember them. Respect is earned.

Who gives a fvck about American history, anyway.

I didn't think that was being discussed?

I got the feeling that most Britons don't care for the royal family... I was visiting the UK a few years ago when the Queen Mother passed away.. on my walk back to the tube station from seeing a show at the theatre someone had scrawled 'QUEEN MUM HA HA' in chalk on the sidewalk :p

No, I'm Welsh and just as much a part of the UK as you.

Brings to mind a quote regarding British imperialism from a Scott:

Some people hate the English. I don't. They're just wankers. We, on the other hand, are colonized by wankers. Can't even find a decent culture to get colonized by. We're ruled by effete assholes. It's a shite state of affairs to be in, Tommy, and all the fresh air in the world won't make any ****** difference!

It's called Buckingham Palace.

hehe. I wouldn't take one British rags headlines as the word of the British. British Newspapers have a reputation of being outlandish.

Especially when it's a bloody typo in an online article.

It's not like they put "Queen visits Captain Clusterfvck, confuses him with finger puzzle".

Now that would have been funny!

Rarely done (can't remember ever). Normally it is handled by the local rep (Governor General). So when the Canadian Government feels like an election, the PM would go to the GG and ask her to dissolve the parliament.

She appoints the GG...Which can of course refuse an election, or do anything on her behalf.

You missed the Rarely done part. Which implies she can do it :)

If the British oust the monarchy, I demand that all British PM's have a fancy accent.

Uhhh... hello? If the British get rid of the monarchy we'll never get a sequel to King Ralph. Let's think before we post, people.
