Britains speed cameras

yesterday new speed cameras where put into action on britains motorways. these are mobile devices that can track you upto over 1mile away

not only that they operate in groups so its no use simply slowing down when you see the camera...they track you over a large distance so speeding up and slowing down wont help.

the thing is theyre on the motorways...the safest roads in britain. not only that THEY ARE ISSUING FINES OF £60 AND 3 POINTS ON YOUR LICENCE FOR DOING SPEEDS AS LOW AS 79MPH! (speed limit is 70)

so, to make sure u dont get fined, you must drive with your eyes glued to your speedo.

now you tell me, whats more dangerous....doing 79MPH, or doing 70Mph but NOT LOOKING where your going?

another thing. you pay your taxes, and car tax, you pay your insurance, and you paid for lessons and what not for your driving license, and your car is fully registered as it should be. youve never had a run in with the police ever. yet just the smallest speed infringment puts you right up there with the real criminals

so the law abiding citizen gets whacked with a fine and points on their licence. but wait

if you dont have insurance, or a driving licence or car tax, or your cars an old unregistered banger....you get let off scot free coz they cant find you or your car in the computer system. GREAT!

so basically the cameras punish the law abiding driver, who has everything in order, for doing a few mph over the limit. yet the system wont catch the real crooks who drive with out insurance, or car tax, or drivers licences! (and thers 2 million of these people here)

for safety MY ARSE.....these cameras for one thing and one thing only......milk the law abiding drivers for all their worth.....forget about real crime.

do speed cameras catch the drunk ass hat in a stolen car with no tax, insurance, or licence whos just done a hit n run on a pregnant woman? No i didnt think they did

You don't know how to drive at a constant speed without looking at your speedometer? You shouldn't be on the road then.

I just live with it.

But I really do think motorway speeds shouuld be increased. I most of the time just go as fast as the traffic. If they are slow I go slow if they are fast I'll go fast. Not been busted yet we 'all know the speeds' on the motorways so it shouldn't be a big deal to be caught/ fine when doing 75+ when your in a 70mph zone. Yeah it sucks but it's the law in England.

So if you're travelling at 78 you know immediately if you drop to 77 or go up to 79? Of course not, so the result is that people would now have to drive at low 70's to be darn sure they don't hit 79.

This is a money grab. Yes, speeding is illegal, but in every area I've ever lived the limits were always too low, in great part because they are built in with the very real expectation that people will break the law to some extent...so if it's determined that a safe speed is in fact 60, the limit will be set at 50, knowing many people will go at 60.

If more people knew how to drive properly then we could all safely raise up limits a LOT, but with habitual tailgating, putting on makeup, playing with the cellphone, etc. all it would do is introduce accidents.

Set cruise control in light traffic at the posted speed limit. Just drive slower no need to rush out there. Cameras are just another way to tax you. But you have control over that. Just do the limit or a bit under.

They are only on trial on the M4 in an area which has a high death rate (200 deaths in the past year) Link

I agree with them in principle. I.e. people shouldnt be going over the speed limit, which is a limit in perfect conditions which almost never occur, so they should be punished.

However, on motorways, so many people drive over the speed limit (myself included, i'm no saint), that this is obviously just a money grabbing scheme.

It's unlikely that America will do this ever, I think. To much of an invasion of privacy.
I imagine eventually some urban places may adopt it, but I can't imagine somewhere like Montana or rural Texas ever adopting it.

these cameras can also see what you are doing,

talkin on the mobile? taking a drink? not wearing a seat belt? lettign the kids get not sit properly (ie standing) they can see all this from over 1/2 a mile away so you could be doing 70Mph but still get fined for taking a sip of water

In the US, when we get pissed, we throw tea into the Boston Harbor.

Why are the Brits even putting up with this BS?....also here in the US, you know its coming. They are just creeping towards it with red light cameras and black boxes in the cars.

I'm telling you, there's no way it will be universally accepted here. Taxpayers won't stand for it and some places simply won't ever do it.

Ever heard of Cruise Control?

If you speed, you can get a ticket. It's that simple. Don't Break the F'ing Law if you don't want a ticket. Stop whining. Set your Cruise at whatever the spee dlimit it, or add on 5-7 mph if you feel safe, and go. I never look at my spedometer except when I'm setting the CC.

Ever heard of not every car has Cruise Control?

Yeah, exactly!

But if you (FrankyJunior) or the goverment is willing to install cruise controls in all the cars at your own expense, then there wouldn't be a problem.
