Brita Water Filters/Pitchers

After gettin tired of buying bottled water all the time, I decided to get a brita water filter pitcher. After using it all day, the water does seem to taste a bit better than our normal tap water. Granted, our tap water isn't so bad (Sacramento) as opposed to other areas. What do you guys think about these things? Think they're worth it in the long run by just replacing water filters instead of continually buying bottles?

I got one of the tank things to put in my fridge. My only problem is that I have to clean it a lot or it gets a really nasty plastic taste. Then again it may just be my fridge.

I think filters and bottled water are both a waste of $$

You can determine this quite easily using a blind test: several brands of bottled water, tap water, and Brita-filtered water all refrigerated in unmarked bottles. See if you can consistently tell the difference.

One note about the Brita: Change the filters, and clean the container often.

I think that bottled water is a waste of money but the regular water here in Colorado Springs tastes like sh*t. So I got me a Brita Pitcher last year and it works great!!! Tastes just like bottled water.

We have a brita unit. It;s huge. Wife just bought a box of 5 new filters for it. Water tastes great and we go through the whole thing in a day.

Sorry, but Sacramento water sucks. The water here tastes like ass. Also, I work for the Water Resources division of the USGS, and we don't have the healthiest water available either. bottled water for me while I'm living in this town.

I've found what I believe to be the most economical solution: get a 5 gallon water bottle and fill it up at the supermarket for $0.30/gallon.

i think a lab test is better... you can't necessarily taste all the differences.

Works great in Riverside, CA , else water just tastes like drinking straight from the Colorado River... Just remember to clean that pitcher once in a while.

i don't like the flavor of brita, i dunno how to put my finger on it. I've had Pur before and that wasn't too bad

Technically true. The taste-test is simply for matters of perception.

I use the one that goes onto the faucet. Works well but they only seem to last us about 2 months per cartridge. Still $60 a year + water bottles isn't too bad.
Basically I just buy the store brand water bottles and fill then with the brita filter.
Nothing like a gallon jug of fresh filtered water to cure that thirst. 🙂

We have a Brita jug also and love it. I believe that where i live is still well water(how many of you have tasted that?🙂). The Brita is a life saver. It sucks not being able to completely get soap off in the shower 🙂

I've been using my Brita pitcher for years now and love it. I also have a Pur filter for the faucet.

Same here but have a Brita on the faucet as well as the pitcher. I change the filters about every other month.

The Dallas water has too much chlorine in it. 😉

i prefer my reverse osmosis water purifier..

Put in a R/O unit about a year ago plumbed it into my water dispensing refrigerator that has another charcoal filter & hooked up the sink dispenser also-took my wife about a month to realize that water isn't supposed to have a taste...

The icemaker puts out awesome, flavorless ice now too.

I tried a Brita system & didn't like the expense & hassle of using it, much prefer just pressing a lever.

Older R/O units had a bad reputation because they wasted water, the newer units (for a few years now) stop producing waste water after the tank is full.

I double filter my water - first with a end of faucet waterpik - then with a Brita pitcher filter. Change the filters about every 2 months (clean pitcher in between and keep in the fridge). Works fine for San Diego.

Supposedly Portland, Oregon has some of the cleanest tap water in the nation. I only use tap water for ice cubes, cooking and washing dishes.

If I am making juice or want some water I use my Brita water pitcher. They're cheap at CostCo B&M around $20 and usually comes with 2 filters.

I used to deliver bottled water to a factory where they make Brita filters... hmm 😉

Our water is pretty bad here and I find that it still tastes aweful with Brita. Reverse Osmosis is the way to go 🙂
