Bringing liqour back to the States

This guy I know *wink, wink, nod, nod* is going to Germany for about a month in about 2 weeks and after talking to some of his friends they have told him that he should try to bring some absinthe back. Is there anyway for him to bring it back or will customs confiscate it?

He was figuring that if he puts it in his bags that go in the cargohold that there won't be a problem so long as they don't go in his carry-ons.

BTW, he is 21. 😀

Shouldn't be a problem, I've had my taste of "real" absinthe here before.

Stuff is overrated anyway.

The stuff is flat out nasty. One of the bitterest things I've ever tasted. There are lots of better liquors you could bring back imo.

LMAO

But as for the previous response, my "friend" had some before and it was nasty but that was b/c he didn't add sugar.

it's nasty even with the sugar.

i had no problem bringing a bottle in ~6 years ago (and this shortly after 9/11).
just check it in a bag. when you get through customs, declare nothing. declaring is for chumps. GL.

A few months ago I brought back some Absinthe from Prague. I just put it in my checked luggage and didn't decalre anything.

However absinthe blows. I think the only people who try to drink it are tourists (just like me!) who can't get it in their respective country. There are much better things to be had if you go to Germany.

He should be able to take back a couple bottles (up to two liters) with him, no problem. Absinthe isn't illegal to consume in the US, it's just illegal to sell.

i went to Amsterdam last year and brought some back
and i recently went to a party at this persons house, anyways they are very rich and they had some caterers from this big company. that company brought some to the party they said they you can bring it in but not buy it.that was a wild night!😉

From my understanding

Legal to posess
Legal to drink

Illegal to sell in the US

Ive ordered from seborabsinth.com before and always get my stuff

Thanks for all of the help...dropping the "he" now...I'll probably end up trying some when I'm over there and that will tell me exactly whether I should bring it back or not. I'm mainly looking forward to the beer, but if anyone has anything else I should try, please let me know.

Properly served with 3 parts ice water and a sugar cube (which is crucial), absinthe is actually quite sweet and tasty.

Its illegality goes back to protectionism for the French wine industry. The whole "green fairy"/"green devil" thing is just nonsense. Wormwood has no psychoactive properties, and absinthe itself is really quite similar to gin. Just more drug war stupidity...

I actually really enjoyed the stuff. am i the only one??</end quote></div>

I don't mind it but it is pretty damn strong if you just take it straight.

One of my friends got one of the kits and made it himself. The stuff we had was just foul but that was b/c we didn't add any sugar. It was like taking an entire spice rack and swilling it all around.
