Just after a brief explanation of the above technology present in the Nforce2 boards...benefits, speed increases, that sort of thing. Whether dual channel PC2100 is faster than single channel PC3200.

Also, Am looking at a Barton 2500+ and MSI K7N2 Combo for my next upgrade, good value end combo? (currently have Biostar M7VIF/KT333 + Palomino 1800+.

What will the heat dissipation be like on the Barton compared to my Palomino? Also I currently have a 350W PSU with 35A on the +5V line, need more?

Cheers,

Jamie

The NF2 is all about running synch mode with in reason due to the performance impact incurred by running asynch with this chipset. 133 DC-DDR isn't going to hang with 3200DDR SC-DDR ( if both are running synch) because DC-DDR with the SPP is only going to yield 2-5% in most situatuions. It's the IGP's 3D performance is where the DC-DDR improves things dramatically. I'm no fan of MSI and if you just want good 6ch sound and don't need all the extra features I'd recommend the 8RDA+ for 85$ shipped from da egg as I think it's the best price/performance NF2 around@the moment. One of the forum members provided a link to a reference to all Intel and AMD CPUs awhile back link The 2500+ though having higher MAX wattage and Amp ratings actually has a typical substantially lower than your 1800+ Pally and uses a full .1v less default. The 350wPSU you have should be great but there's more emphasis placed on the 12v line now just like with the P4s and some NF2 boards have adapted the P4 style 4pin 12v connector, my Soltek uses it.

The 2500+ is a sweet CPU and mine runs 2.3ghz on less then default vcore actual so they ramp well and most shipping now are hitting 2.2-2.4ghz on 1.8v or less. The stock cooler with the retail actually has a nickle plated copper base so lapping off the nickle will most likely give a nice improvement in temps, I'm waiting on a member here to post back with results on his project doing just that so I'll be glad to post a link to his results :)

Dapunisher,

My 2500 just arrived and I will be lapping the AS3 on it and I will post the results as well.

My goal is to hit 2ghz with stock hs/fan and keep under 50c full load.

Please do, I'm really curious what getting rid of that nickle plating does for it.
