Bridging cell phone "hot spot" to network

I am ready to drop Comcast due to terrible customer service.

I am on a grandfathered unlimited data plan with VZW. If my phone is enabled as a hotspot could I use a wireless bridge plugged into my router WAN port to share the internet throughout my house?

Verizon monitor these activities. They allow it if you pay more for the service,

I am not sure what would happened to the Unlimited data if you ask for it. Verizon uses any change in the account as an excuse to terminate the customer's grandfathering of the Unlimited data status.

If you do it without permission they will probably close your account.

The ""Good News"" is that all large ISPs providers have Very Bad customer service. So it really does not matter who is your bad service provider.

I am paying the extra 30$ a month for tethering. But you are probably right im sure it does violate some terms.

unfortunately its not even the terrible CS but the fact that my Comcast has not been working for almost 2 weeks now is keeping me from using it. I figured the tethering plan is still cheaper then Comcast.

No they won't. The FCC has been holding them very closely to the C block bidding rules. Verizon can't throttle, discriminate, or basically do squat with LTE users.

If you have a LTE SIM, you can just pop it from your phone into a LTE modem stick. Check HowardForums for people's experiences with this and hardware recommendations.

I've also done what you originally contemplated when my cable went out... though I only bridged devices hardwired to the router. You could bridge and AP on a dual-band router, though -- probably simplest to connect to the phone on 5ghz and AP to other devices on 2.4.

I have friends who got into trouble with such practice. In addition if One loses his unlimited data plan then the whole thing of using the Phone Wireless as the main Internet connection is Moot.

That said, check with Verizon they act a little different in different neighborhoods. Might be you are on their lucky side.

I would double check to be sure you even still have that grandfathered unlimited. A while back they canned it even for grandfathered accounts, our entire grandfathered business account got bumped down to 2gb/user without any contract or account changes about 6 months ago.
