I have an RTN12B1 (main router) and my cisco E3000 is wireless ethernet bridge mode connected to main router. I want to use my 5ghz as a secondary accesss point. im runing tomato 1.28 by toastman on e3000 and shibby on rtn12. any help with bridging the wireless would be greatly appreciated!

Assuming the main router has an ip address internally of 192.168.1.1, assign the static ip of 192.168.1.2 to the second router.

Enable DHCP on the first and disable on the second.
On the second, set the gateway and dns server to be 192.168.1.1

Connect a LAN port of the first to a LAN port on the second. Don't connect the WAN port of the second unless you convert it to be a LAN port in the settings.

Any questions, just ask.

Bingo. Change IPs as appropriate.

cedmondson28, the instructions that you got above are for using the second Wireless Router as an Access Point via a wire connection between the two, under this condition the 5GHz can work out of the second Wireless Router.

If you are looking for a Wireless connection as a Repeater the Repeater would receive and transmit on the 2.4GHz band.

Sorry, to be a bit more specific. I have no wiring in my house. My main router (RTN12b) is on the complete opposite side of the house and i have a desktop in my room I want online. Instead of being and cheap and buying a usb N adapter, I connected the e3000 using the 2.4 ghz as a Wireless ethernet bridge. Im using tomato, I need to figure out how to point the 5ghz wireless to the 2.4ghz wireless bridge. I can connect to router but I have limited access using 5ghz.

Main router - 192.168.1.1 - dhcp server

e3000 - 192.168.1.254 - wireless ethernet bridge

I tried using wds and this worked when both routers had tomato by Shibby but in order to get vlan support using tomato on the e3000 i had to use toastman tomato on e3000.

The part that makes this so tricky is I want 2.4 ghz as a the "wired" connection between routers and I need to bind the 5ghz interface to the 2.4ghz interface (if that makes sense)

I am missing something, what is suppose to connect via 5GHZ to what?

At the moment that you configured the second Router as a Client Wireless Bridge it can only work Wirelessly with the source Router, it is Not any more capable to serve as an Access Point.

If you want a 5Hz Access Point capability you have to use an additional dual band Router connected as an Access Point to the main Router or the Bridge via short cable LAN port to LAN Port.

The E3000 is dual band. the RTN12 isnt. I want my 5ghz to direct traffic to the 2.4ghz wireless ethernet bridge so router is wireless linked and 5gh is my ap. i dont know how to redirect traffic from 5 to 2.4 ghz interfaces using tomato by toastman the e3000 build.

Just connect the E3000 to the RTN12b. The 5Ghz band won't even be in play.

Not every verbal combination that our Brain can conceive is tangible reality.

This is simply beyond the technical capacity of the Hardware.

So your saying that its not possible to use the 2.4 ghz wireless ethernet bridge and use 5 ghz as AP and redirect the traffic to the 2.4 backbone?

Agreed, I don't think this will work. There might be separate radios on a physical level, but they share a lot of hardware and drivers and I'm not sure you can split them up that way.

Not trying keep on it but one last question, isnt there a page in tomato where you can assign different interfaces? or possibly using vlans? assign 2.4 to one vlan and 5 to another? im kinda frustrated that wont work :-(

2. Cant believe i didnt think of this. Basically switch routers. Use e3000 as main which would let 5ghz work and use asus in my room as my wireless ethernet bridge??
