Bricked my SSD

Recently bought an Adata SSD with Sandforce controller and did a clean install with Win7. Read a fair bit of info about problems with the controller so when Adata posted a new firmware on their website I decided to flash it.

The flash utility is Windows based so stupid me, wasn't thinking clearly, I tried to flash it while using my new Win7 image. As soon as I started the flash the computer locked up. Real dumb thing is I have a different image I could have flashed from.

So now the drive isn't recognized at all in the system. Even the bios doesn't see it.

Any options short of sending it in to Adata and asking if they can fix it? Dos based flash utility? Honestly, I'm feeling pretty stupid here.🙁

Edit: Some seriously strange $hit going down here. The drive was not being detected anywhere (bios, another OS, etc) but all of a sudden it is. I have no idea what's going on...but happy this thing is working again. Need to check to see if the flash happened, but scared to try again if it didn't. Sorry for being such a knob. I've never seen anything like this before.

I'm no computer expert, but before you install anything vital on the SSD, you may want to make sure that you do a proper flash to ensure there is no corruption in the bios.

Second, what were the problems you were reading about and what was the likelihood of them affecting you?

Yeah, it is usually better to avoid flashing unless you are experiencing problems with your own product. If it is working reliably now, try to resist tweaking.

Sorry for starting a new thread on this issue...

The Sandforce S-1222 controller has known issues with random blue screens and blue screens coming out of hibernation/sleep mode. Experienced a steep learning curve during the firmware upgrade process.

Had to turn on AHCI via Regedit since I had the bios set to IDE mode during the OS install

Turn on AHCI in bios

Reboot and windows detected the change and updated the software as required

Reboot again and was able to upgrade the firmware on the SSD drive.

Strange things related to the drive disappearing after a failed flash attempt. Only way to bring it back was a complete shut down, restart did not get it.

Another strange thing is blue screens even after the Reg. change. Can't explain this one, only happy it went away.

At any rate, got this drive updated so all is well.🙂
