yup. and im sure we will be all driving flying cars and be wearing gasmasks whenever we leave a building.

I have a feeling that china will self destruct and implode within the next few years.
And mexicos GDP proly is 10 already, just that they arent counting the drug trade money!

These "emerging economies" have been emerging for 50+ years now.

Not really, the difference between China 20 years ago and China today is staggering.

That said, I don't see any reason to believe that China's GDP will continue to grow at double digit rates until it is twice the GDP of the US.

you do realize the population will be probably doubled by then or more.

An interesting point. Do you think that the earth will be able to support 13 billion people? Even if the climate is substanially warmer than today?

I honestly don't know either way...

Also realize that China has four times the population. By those figures the US will still have twice the GDP per capita of China.

In 1970 if you told someone that China would become the powerhouse that it is today, they'd laugh their asses off.

Not so funny today, is it?

over population is a myth. There is no resource shortage. Any alleged shortage is man made. Population is a technological problem not a resource problem. Any problems that population creates will(or can) be remedied by improvements in technology. This has always been the way. By engineering crops we have already found ways increase crop yields 100%-500%+++ . Pollution, disease, etc. All technology problems that should be easily remedied. Technology is on a hockey stick growth curve but population is not.

If they following in the footsteps of the US sure... they will have 70 trillion in GDP but they will also be 150trillion in debt. Question is which of the then up & coming superpower is buying them debt. :p

OK, but the only way we were able to increase crop yields like that was by using huge amounts of petroleum fertilizers. The price of oil has tripled in the last 10 years, and the same scientists that brought you the heber process are telling you that if we don't stop burning fossil fuels we will destroy our environment.
