if you are going to say that tax cutting is racist because it hurts blacks more than whites, then you have to say that social security is racist because it hurts blacks more than whites

What his co-workers were really saying: "SHHHHHH, stop exposing what us republicans really believe!"

That's funny, considering that it was 2 Democrats that proposed Constitutional amendments to make interracial marriage illegal: Andrew King in 1871, and Seaborn Roddenbery in 1912 and 1913.
You do realize we're living in the year 2009, right?
Of course I do. I just find it telling that you felt the need to excoriate me for making a factual (albeit dated) statement, yet seemingly had no problem with Phokus making an idiotic generalization about Republicans. Of course, I should have known better than to expect anything less from you.

100 years ago vs last few Days, I think we need a committee to return a finding that we can then use for discussion.

I'll concede that the actions of 2 politicians many years ago are not representative of the entire Democratic party if you concede that the actions of some jackass on tv are not representative of the entire Republican party. Deal?

Agreed, but this kind of thing has been going on with such regularity amongst such a large number of people that it would seem to be a significant part of the Republican Party.

Examples?

This, Republican Rallies 10+ months ago, "Obama the Magic Negro", etc etc etc.

please provide names, along with their registered Republican affiliation.

"republican rallies" is vague and incoherent at best. you need to address the question once again, but be more specific :)

You didn't hear what was said? Excuse me for not being the Head of the NSA and not having the info to answer your question specifically.

You're excused from the thread due to inability to answer :)

Perhaps next time before implicitly suggesting that the majority of the republican party is racist, you arm yourself with some recent facts to back it up. Sorry, but a few youtube videos of a hick saying the N word and an op-ed article in the LA Times about a magic negro don't translate to the majority of the republican party being racist. That's a big leap, even for you. Don't get me wrong, I hate republicans as much as the next guy, but I prefer facts to accusations. Due to your failure to provide any prudent facts, I accept the withdrawal of your accusation wholeheartedly :)

Find yourself another reason to bash the R's -and base it on facts, not hyperbole- and I will gladly jump on the bandwagon :)

Here's one I can add others...

From GOP staffers

Oops another one

Too easy should I keep going or do you get the point??

Naah I'll keep going

Wonderful people at McCain/Palin rallys

If you can find just one Democratic staffer putting out one ad calling McCain whitey or a cracker I'll shutup.

Point is not all members of the GOP are racist. However the GOP tolerates racists in their midst that's why there are so many instances like this during the election. Until the GOP is willing to purge itself it will continue.

1) The quote is from Lee Atwater, the 'karl rove' of his day for the GOP, he brought a whole new nastiness to dirty politics. *I* didn't say tax cuts were racist.

2) And neither did lee atwater. It's not that tax cuts are racist, it's that the way they were promoted, it appeals to racists. Part of the southern strategy that the GOP used was to use images of people on welfare as mostly being black. Of course you need taxes to fund welfare so there's an obvious connection between raising/lowering taxes which help/hurt black people.

You remind me of Brian Kilmeade. He has 'inbred Europeans' and you have 'inbred Southerners'. After sharing such things in common, you should ask him out sometime.

The Nixon shit from a week ago, where abortion needs to be legal for interracial babies.

Do you actually make stuff up now?

There's a difference between not actively promoting gay rights and using gay people as a social wedge to gain votes. Guess which party does the latter.

Voting for state constitutional amendments, like in CA and Oregon, is actively denying gay rights. It isn't standing by on the sideline.

Oh really, are you saying those people who voted against gay marriage are all liberals now?

And you're not willing to admit conservatives use gay people as a wedge to gain votes/support?

Watching Fox News' morning show, "Fox and Friends," is a little bit like watching the aftermath of a particularly nasty car crash. Yeah, it's awful, but you just have to keep looking, because, well, who knows what mangled body parts they'll pull from the wreckage next?

Even by those standards, though, host Brian Kilmeade's performance on Wednesday was just terrible.

Kilmeade and two colleagues were discussing a study that, based on research done in Finland and Sweden, showed people who stay married are less likely to suffer from Alzheimer's. Kilmeade questioned the results, though, saying, "We are -- we keep marrying other species and other ethnics and other ..."

At this point, his co-host tried to -- in that jokey morning show way -- tell Kilmeade he needed to shut up, and quick, for his own sake. But he didn't get the message, adding, "See, the problem is the Swedes have pure genes. Because they marry other Swedes .... Finns marry other Finns, so they have a pure society."[/b]

Paging Dr. Goebbels...is Dr. Goebbels in the house?

I quit watching that show a long time ago when they changed to the current lineup. Killmeade in particular is an idiot, Steve is not too bright either. And the blonde, well... I still like their 6 pm show with Brett Bair (sp?). Good hard news with some panel discussion at the end.

Yes, of course that is what I said. Only liberals voted in those elections, obviously.

I successfully proved that bigotry and discrimination are not unique to the (R) party. So you continue to make yourself look like an idiot by making drive-by sweeping generalizations, and the rest of us will continue on like adults.

yeah, the modern day GOP was only founded on bigotry against blacks (southern strategy) and more focused on bigotry against gays and hispanics these days

But you're right, democrats are just as bigoted as republicans

See in today's terminology they would be republicans. Like Lincoln would be a democrat.

Read up on how the focus of the 2 parties changed around the time of the Great Depression (actually quite interesting and subtle.

Please provide a link showing that Republicans are against interracial marriage and advocate racial purity. Take your time...

Take your time reading my post.

Between Seaborn being a conservative and how the focus of the parties changed around FDR's time (Hint, Democrats weren't liberal before then), I find your labels... Lacking.

I know wiki isn't the best source for things, however I know that it's true so don't really need to find a better source to start.

After 1830, the Democratic Party became a coalition of farmers, city-dwelling laborers, and Irish Catholics
...
Cleveland was the leader of the Bourbon Democrats. They represented business interests, supported banking and railroad goals, promoted laissez-faire capitalism, opposed imperialism and U.S. overseas expansion, opposed the annexation of Hawaii, fought for the gold standard, and opposed Bimetallism.
...
Under FDR, the Democratic Party became identified more closely with modern liberalism, which included the promotion of social welfare, labor unions, civil rights, and the regulation of business. The opponents, who stressed long-term growth and support for entrepreneurship and low taxes, now started calling themselves "conservatives."

I mean seriously, the parties change over time and applying a label to a person a hundred years ago and thinking it means the same as today shows a lack of understanding of how English works.

Don't worry I have your Buggy Whip factory over here.

No but you are, and you apparently are conflating Obama's expressed personal beliefs about marriage with what legislation he favors. His personal expressed belief that marriage is between a man and a woman does not preclude him from supporting equality in the law any more than a person who believes that life begins at conception is precluded from being opposed to the banning of abortion.

It would be incredibly hard for me to believe that you're over 18. The modern republican party is not focused on bigotry no matter how hard you wish to make it so.
