i just watched ESPN sunday NFL countdown, a segment on Brett...
Steve Young was defining that the Packers org, and this is the second time he said it this yr, has given up on Brett and winning championships now, and are rebuilding. They didn't resign two pricey? probowl caliber offensive linemen.
Inarticulate Michael Irving w/ bad suits every other week says the issue is Favre is a 35yr old washed up man.
Both went off arguing.
I say the front office of the Packers did look to the future... their first pick, they grab a QB instead of someone on defense.
I say the front office did injustice to Favre.
Here you have a QB who put GreenBay on the map... such a marketable figure for the league too... he is slower, and maybe lost a few yds in his deepest hail mary type of throw... i think the accuracy hasn't fallen off too much, maybe you can question some of his situational reads... which is surprising bec. experience i think, doesn't go away...
but the packers org. has allowed for the team to drop in talent a lot more so than Favre himself has aged.
The front office, i think when you have a sports figure on your team that comes around once in a lifetime, you owe it to that athelete to feeding him chances to continue to win for the org.
And i don't mean Jerry Rice... he doesn't play a position that at his age, can win championships.
I DO mean like Jordan back w/ the Bulls b4 their final yr and everyone was broken up. Jordan had stated he had intention to be back, but not if Phil was gone... and Phil was gone bec. of the front office.
Do the Packers really sell out their future for more of an extended length of time if they had 'blown' this yrs draft on addressing 'immediate' needs of the Packer team, and had spent the money needed to retain their linemen?
