To all those saying he should be fined, do you think the guy that did the low block on him that got the Roughing the Passer penalty should also be fined for taking his helmet to Favre's knees?

I didn't see the play, but I thought that going for a QB's knee's was against the rules in all cases now.

It is, as stated, roughing the passer. I was just simply asking if the guy should be fined if Brett is fined for his block? Some of these people are quick to the gun.

His coach is also an idiot for assuming Favre could do anything close to a legitimate job of blocking.

This.

He shouldn't have been asked to make a block like that. For 25M - 2yr contract, I'll bet the owner was pretty happy about that play. On top of all that, he used his throwing shoulder (the one he had surgery on) to deliver the blow.

This reminds me of Trent Green a couple seasons ago, when he played the preseason like he had something to prove. He was out before the regular season started with a massive concussion.

Trent Green block in case anyone wanted to know.

How many un-retirements is this for him?

About as many as Michael Jordan had.

Is Favre far and above the best player of all-time? If not, drop the comparison.

Not that I like Favre at all, but he is the all-time leader in most major QB categories, so he certainly deserves to be in that conversation.

And it's not as though Jordan is "far and above" the best ever either, Magic, Russell, Wilt, Bird, etc. should all be in the conversation similar to Favre.

I saw the play and the guy wasn't going for Favre's knee, momentum carried him into Favre, it wasn't malicious.

Jordan is 'far and above' the best ever. Everyone knows this.

This.

Michael Jordan is the greatest athlete to ever play sports, by his achievements and accolades.

Same thing here on Favre - it's not like Childress handed him a play and said, take out this LBs knees or I'll cut you.

Don't agree ... he's nowhere near far and above. He's a good player, but there are others that are pretty damn close to him.

Like who?

Magic - could have been, but his career was cut short. So we will never know his true greatness.
Wilt - Was a god playing against mere men. Way too hard to say if he would have been as great playing against the athletes of the modern era
Russell - Same as Wilt
Bird - This guy is probably the closest to the greatness of Jordan. I still think that if you asked 100 people, 90+ of them would choose Jordan over Bird.

He's still not far and above, merely just above. It took him 6 season to win his first championship - if he was 'far and above,' he would have started winning right away. I'm just saying that he's slightly above the others.

Please. Crappy attempt at blocking for sure, but he's an old QB FFS, how often does he ever block? It's not like he intended to hurt the guy.

This is a completely invalid point and means nothing in terms of the discussion. If it was a solo sport then you'd have a point, but it's not, so you don't.

He still does have somewhat of a point. I can understand where he is coming from.

Actually you kinda proved my point - it's a team game. Jordan's team is what got him the rings - not him. Same can be said for any great player. The media overhypes players like Jordan, Kobe, Shaq, LeBron, Bird, etc. Carmelo, Pierce, Dirk, etc. all put up the same numbers or close to those numbers point wise as Jordan and averaged statistically around him in other categories. Jordan is so fuckin overhyped it's disgusting. He's a good player, who had an outstanding team around him.

It really wasn't that big a deal... he's a QB... they don't block. Kudoz to him for having the guts to put himself out there like that.

What's really great is all the folks here who think Brett's never thrown a block like that before.

He's been throwing blocks like that and more his whole career!!!

That one wasn't a geat example, but sheesh.......everyone does know Brett played more than the 2 or 3 times per year he was shown on network TV, right?
