it is a side track to the environmentalist/anti-technology/elitist thing, anyone that doesn't stick to zero population growth is an idiot and must have a mental defect for producing three or more children , hence the derogatory term "breeder" meaning a woman that has three or more children

I read a story from a San Fran columnist about this a couple of years ago. Supposedly, some people there refer to women with two or more children as "Breeders".

I've heard it used a few times by gays against obnoxious, assumed to be, straights. Personally I think it is stupid since asshole/prick/moron/bitch/etc... all work perfectly well already.

Calling the guy a "silly breeder" with no mention of anything other than marital status. Seems out of place to me, but <shrug>.

I've seen it used outside the context of population growth, almost as a generic to slam heteros. Then again, maybe I just assumed that's what they were slamming and misunderstood the whole thing.

i keep getting flashes of a maury show i watched when seriously bored on white supremacist breeders. girls (not women... 14 to 22 or so) that wanted to be breeders for the white race. the show cracked me up at how stupid the people they chose to represent them were, but im sure that was for the theatrical effect more than realism.

i have 3 kids, and we arent breeders.

I've heard it mostly in reference to poor people who have a few kids (even if less than 3), because the assumption is that the taxpayers will pay for the kids.

In any event, I don't think highly of people who use it as an insult. I think it's dehumanizing.

In general, me either, but usually because of other comments they're making. I guess I didn't really understand the term well enough to dislike them just for that :p

I thought it was based on the joke that stupid people breed while smart people don't.

I've never thought of them as that; I do know someone near where I live though - damn near every 9 months, there was another sign on the door, "IT'S A BOY!" I don't know how many kids they've got exactly. 6, possibly more. They had to build an addition onto the house for them. I refer to it as "the barracks" and the kids as "the litter."

I never thought to call the mother a "breeder" - breeding requires two, at least for creatures that procreate sexually.

It actually has more to do with the fact that smarter people only have the number of kids they can or choose to afford while stupid or lower class people just have sex with reckless abandon even though they keep popping out kids they cannot afford to raise.

I had a couple asshole friends that would call me a breeder, like it was bad to be straight. You guessed it, they were gay or bi.
Needless to say, I don't talk to them much anymore. Actually that's not the real reason I don't talk to them anymore, but that's besides the point.

I have nothing against gays, I have gay friends still. I don't like the straight-haters, though. They're just as bad as the homophobic people.

It's funny that they call me that, because my girlfriend and I wouldn't really like to have children. At least not for a lonnng time.

I thought this thread, based on the title, was about animal breeders, aka people that sell show dogs, horses, etc.

"Breeders" are people who only work on the lowest common element -- to copulate. They don't think beyond the reptilian brain. Of course it is a derogatory statement.

it's a derogatory term used by some gays to refer to straight people, especially the ones who insist on bringing their kids to upscale restaurants and non-child oriented broadway and movie theaters.

I've never heard it refer to poor people before. I've only heard it used by gays to refer to homophobes. It's a play on the whole "homosexuality is evil because they can't procreate" argument. The uptight fundies think sex is only for making babies so they became "breeders".

So it sounds like there's not even a clear definition for it, since almost everyone's has it's own flavor.

I've been called "breeder" before. Was by a group of gay guys and was their lame attempt to insult me due to my sexual orientation. I could just as easily have called them fags. But they weren't worth my time.

breed·er (brdr)
n.
1. A person who breeds animals or plants.
2. An animal kept to produce offspring.
3. Offensive Slang: A heterosexual person.
4. A source or cause: social injustice a breeder of revolutions.
5. A breeder reactor.

I don't know about all of you but I've never heard breeder used to describe #3. I've always thought a breeder as the first definition.
