Breather Hole on HD?

What exactly is this for? What if it was covered, theres a warning saying not too, but why, whats the purpose of the hole? Alota HD coolers i've seen cover this hole.

I've blocked it with my fingure and there is no sucktion or anything. I didn't do it long though. I've only seen this hole on Quantum hard drives.

My WD 24300 has one as well!
Same with my Quantum AS...

The WD 2(43)00 is a 4.3Gb drive. The 15GB WD HDD's are either 153AA (5400rpm) or 153BA(7200). I think they discontinued the 153BA's.

Ah I've got or had the 4.3 gig version to. Damn drive I had to send it back for RMA.
