breasts and tv: the paradox

why does broadcast tv in the u.s.a. conform to such prudish standards with regard to certain aspects of the human body? it is inherently tied to societal "norms," so the underlying question is why is u.s. culture so unable to cope with seeing bare breasts on tv or out in the open in general? it's not just breasts either, it's also genetalia of any age (even infants!).

three weeks ago i was at home channel surfing. i had stopped on america's funniest home videos and there was a video of an infant in a tub. the strange thing was that his penis was blocked out. what the fvck? it's just a baby!!! there was a baby girl but her chest wasn't blocked out. why not? we're all born with breast tissue, both males and females. this makes absolutely no sense.

today i was watching er. there was this patient with pertussis on the table. she was having a code so her shirt was taken off and was lying topless. carter was there doing chest compressions and her breasts were blocked out. what the hell's up with that? if you go to a real hospital, do people expect the breasts and genitalia to be blocked out?

Yeah, somewhat sarcastic, but I do think you were being a bit harsh. Which was the reason I posted the way I did. I can tell it kind of riled you a bit, and you were ready for the ensuing flame war. The point was that if you get kind of upset when somebody posts in your own format then why post in such a way that would upset you if used against yourself? Respect man!

Well, no, I was just pointing out the hypocrisy if that was not a sarcastic statement. I'm not saying that hardcore BDSM should be broadcasted on local access cable at 9AM, BOTOH the puritans were a bunch of f***ers.

It's just a baby-peepee, it's just a boobie...it's just whatever - doesn't matter. If something is 'forbidden' (like nudity in the states) then it becomes a greater issue than what it actually is.
See it from another interesting perspective: If someone blocks out a harmles baby-peepee....what do you think goes on in this peoples mind ?

Maybe the people who block harmless and normal nudity at all cost are the ones with the big stash of child-porn on ther puters !

Oh...reminds me of my yesterdays thread related (church etc....)...how ironic that the restrictive church is also famous for molesting children.

What i wanna say is...if someone has no 'thoughts' about something as normal as a baby-peepee then he/she would also not see a necessarity to censor it. Paradox is that the more censoring, the more surpressing they act over this issues (or parents raise their children teaching them that something normal i'is bad') - they will achieve exactly the opposite of what they're actually plan to do.

What child do you think will have a better/normal life ?

) the child which's parents laugh while the superbowl break because something really FUNNY happened for a sec ?
) the child which parents sream in outrage and pull the kid away from the tv because there was something BAD on the screen ?

Which kid will have a normal sex-life...and which kid has a potential to grow up un-normal..either with a messed up sex-life, problems in relationships..or worse....a potential rapist/molester because he cant cope with all the 'forbidden' things in his head (which are there because its a normal part of every human being....) [This kids might also be the future adults w****g off when they something like a baby-peepee just as a side note...)]
