i got mad about this when that little girl elizbeth smart went missing. It was on the news every fvcking 20 minutes! during the time she went missing 2 young black girls were kidnapped from chicago. The local news had a 10 second blurb about it then went back to a 5 minute discussion on smart.

WTF that pissed me off.

If your daughter lived remotely close to that apartment complex, I have a feeling that you (the OP) would consider this to be "news."

What I'm sick of is everyone playing a stupid race card these days. And that goes for both white and black people. Sometimes I feel that despite it being 2006, we have truly regressed as a society.

The local news ran this story last week but painted it as another "THE DANGERS OF MYSPACE!!!" story.... trying to claim she was murdered because she had her picture and some personal info on myspace.

What the idiots didn't stop to consider is this:
No signs of forced entry
She was wearing a bikini
It was late at night.

So, she probably INVITED in her attacker and must have trusted him at that point because women don't wear bikinis late at night around men they don't trust.

Oh, but myspace is sooooo evil.

Edit: I thought this was referring to a story that happened on the East Coast last week. If this is California, it's a different story.

Nobody gives a ****** if some poor person living in the slums dies. Hell, it's probably better than what they would have endured if they were to continue living. I think the OP's point is that the media covers rich, attractive, white girl deaths like they are the most important thing happening in the world. I saw the news report.. and it is really sad. I feel sorry for the family and for the victim who died. However I do agree with the OP. Seems these kind of stories grab more media attention, and more public outcry than if it were say a young black woman, or some young hispanic kid. Generally, it is a media sensationalized story designed to get ratings. How sad because in effect they are profiting off of this victim and what happened to her... and this gets old sometimes.

edit: Maybe I didn't mean right to live, Pablo, but that's pretty much what I took from this post. He's saying poor slums are worthless to society therefore nobody cares to hear the story, while the attractive and smart people are "good" people so we care that they died.

Personally, I don't give a crap about this girl who was just strangled. Nor do I give a crap about some poor person who was killed. But that doesn't mean that a victims family or friends care less because he/she was poor, ugly, dumb, or whatever.

Gang members killing each other over drugs is not news unless it involves someone innocent-- like what happened in Indianapolis over the weekend. People dying in car crashes is not news it involves someone innocent or has some other unusual circumstance (such as the mistaken identity case on the news the last week or so).

The reason why rich, white women being murdered is *typically* news is because it usually involves someone innocent, and it is not that common of an occurrence.

I remember the news story on that girl and IIRC, she was strangled in her own apartment.

Bad move #1: let someone in your own apt who might strangle you. Any young woman who wants to survive these days needs to have brain cell #1 inside those bleach-blonde scalps, and part of brain cell #1 involves not putting yourself in dangerous situations. Going to Caribbean and partying/getting drunk with unknown males, letting male person whom you obviously don't know well enough in with you in your apt alone, etc etc.

It is definitely unfortunate that people have to die, but if its the one out of millions of copycat dumbass rich white girls who don't have the first thought about reality outside of daddy's country club, I'm not losing any sleep.
