It's unfortunate.

This generation deserves to suffer for electing Bush. But now future generations stand to suffer.

Not good.

This truly sucks. Little Bush is going to destroy this country. He doesn't have the intelligence or wisdom of his father, got us stuck in a hell hole quagmire in Iraq, and now we're screwed for the next 20+ years by one or more openings on SCOTUS.

I don't understand why rehnquist hasn't retired. He's about to drop dead, and Bush's politics match his own pretty well.

My guess is he is waiting for 2006 to see if the Republicans get 60 senators.

Good news for Bush.

why would he wait for 60 senators? Doesn't he assume that his replacement would be conservative like himself? I can't imagine bush not putting a conservative up. Its a golden opportunity for him to do so and it would go along way towards appeasing the core of his party.

So you don't get c*cokblocked by the dems.

what a perfect choice of words...

I couldn't have said it better, or more eloquently, myself.

gonzalez is pro-choice right? at least that's something. though he might fold to bush's will on it.

unfortunately he's also pro-torture.

Im my experience, the anti-filibuster position always assumes that only Dems have ever used it, which is not the case.

Gonzo is personally prochoice, but state's right, so he would overturn Roe V Wade. I follow this stuff pretty closely and I think they are waiting for Reinquest to retire before putting up Gonzalez. To replace a moderate they need an easy confirmation. Dark Horse: Orrin Hatch. He would be easy bc he has a lot of friends in the senate, and is definetly a conservative.

I want a good conservative on the court, but I don't want Roe v. Wade overturned. I think it'll create a backlash against the court and Republicans in general.

I want a judge that is against the private eminent domain ruling. The sooner that is turned over the better. Since O'Connor opposed it, I guess it doesn't really matter, though.

i want someone who will uphold the Constitution appointed. If it takes a "Liberal" or "Conservative" to get that person, so be it.

This may mean that Roe vs. Wade gets overturned next year. 🙁

It will never be overturned. Dem's use the possibility of Roe V Wade being overturned to scare the more ignorant into line.

The last major cast that I'm aware of that dealt with it was a 5 to 4 decision with O'Connor in the majority; so you never know.
