This just in:

President Bush just announced that his first nomination to the United State Supreme Court will be.... HIMSELF. He'll serve a dual role for the next 3 1/2 years.

Dammit. O'Conner was THE deciding vote. She kept the liberal majority in the S.C.

Just announced, Bush will be making a statement within the next 40 minutes.

Edit: Haha, Gonzales (Attorney Gen.) is the "#1 Appointment Decision" according to CNN.

well, she joined the liberals on that particular topic, so her loss hurts the pro-choice camp.

I don't understand why rehnquist hasn't retired. He's about to drop dead, and Bush's politics match his own pretty well.

My guess is he is waiting for 2006 to see if the Republicans get 60 senators.

Good news for Bush.

why would he wait for 60 senators? Doesn't he assume that his replacement would be conservative like himself? I can't imagine bush not putting a conservative up. Its a golden opportunity for him to do so and it would go along way towards appeasing the core of his party.

The Senate will revisit the judicial filibuster and 'nuclear option' very soon I predict.

I suspect the senate wont hesitate to use the nuclear option over this one. Its too big an opportunity for them.
