Three people have been killed in a shooting at Columbia Mall in Howard County, Md. Saturday, police confirmed.
The suspect was among those found dead. His body was located near a gun and ammunition, police said. Three witnesses described the gun as a shotgun, though police have not yet confirmed the weapon used.
Police said they were "confident" that there was no other shooter involved in the shooting, which was first reported just after 11 a.m.
Why is every shooting national news but they ignore deaths caused by cancer, car accidents, doctor mistakes, old age and choking on hot dogs.
Every shooting? Just schools, malls or other heavily populated areas.
bingo.
no one cares about inner city people. that's why the regular murders in DC, Philly, LA, and Chicago barely get any coverage (maybe if you average 1/day, like Philly did). it only counts when violence invades places where "it's NEVER supposed to happen"(that was a CNN headline btw)
Most inner city violence doesn't involve disgruntled crazies picking off total strangers at random.
School shootings are often targeted shootings. Do we know this one wasn't?

This and this. Everything now is a "mass shooting." Or an "active shooter" as I overheard the Columbia shooting event being described yesterday. Over dramaticisation (sp?) of the events by the media. I live in the DC area, so our news covers Columbia and surrounding, but also (obviously) SE DC and PG County. Shootings in those areas are common and get a blurb on page 2 of the newspaper. Muders in DC average over 200 a year, or one almost every other day. But nobody cares about that.
The murder rate in DC hasn't been that high in over than a decade.
Most recent figure I could find with a quick search is 88 murders in 2012.
