Breaking on CNN International (2 am EDT):

Al-Arabiya TV has said they obtained a new audio tape with a voice purported to be OBL. The voice says the Madrid bombings were retribution by Al Qaeda. The voice offers a truce with European nations if they pull out of the Muslim states they currently occupy (Afghanistan and Iraq I assume). Obviously, no such truce offered to the US.

theres details at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4743768/

Bush has been doing such a great job labeling everything as black and white, peaceful and bloodthirsty, and good and evil that Bin Laden himself has had to come out of his cave to explain why hes doing such things. But of course, the Bush Admin isn't going to learn a thing from this tape since they hate freedom, and looove chaos I'm not by any means defending Al Quaeda but if Bush can put a stop to attacks on the US from its source (hint: not in Iraq) and punish the man responsible, I'm all for it

in this regard in particular;

Bush has been doing such a great job labeling everything as black and white, peaceful and bloodthirsty, and good and evil that Bin Laden himself has had to come out of his cave to explain why hes doing such things.
i see... so Ben laden is to be 'understood' & 'learned from' but Bush is the one doing wrong...

Sounds like the standard line from your side and definitely to be expected from a Kerry presidency.

CLARKE: Osama bin Laden had been saying for years, 'America wants to invade an Arab country and occupy it -- an oil rich Arab country.' He'd been saying this. This was part of his propaganda. So what do we do after 9/11? We invade an oil rich, and occupy and oil rich Arab country which was doing nothing to threaten us. In other words, we stepped right into bin Laden's propaganda and the result of that is that al Qaeda and organizations like it, offshoots of it, second generation al Qaeda, have greatly strengthened.

This sums up nicely how the next gen of Bin Ladens are being brainwashed thanks to Bush's little adventure.

It only makes sense since Bin Laden himself was trained by the CIA, while Bush's father was the head of the CIA. Like father, like son.

Put down the crackpipe and step away. :p

I'll ignore the CIA comment but I want to ask you one question. If it was all for oil then why is the price of gas at a record high when we are getting all this oil for free?

I think we are reading sMiLeYz's post differently. I think his point was that Bush is making Osama look right. Making a militant religious zealot into a prophet is a bad idea...

Bin Laden is claiming that we want the oil belonging to Arabs (is this the PC term? :p). He claims that we would invade and occupy an oil rich land. What did Bush do after he realized that finding Osama was tougher than finding Waldo? He invaded an oil rich country, Iraq. He stepped in the dog doo, and innocent citizens will be paying the price.

Creating martyrs and crusades are things Bush should be avoiding.

that we aren't looting the oil, but actually pouring funds into Iraq to build a prosperous capitalism will hinder terrorism, and bring about the social revolution that will put the American-hating mullahs out of power.

It only makes sense since...
Woo Hooo! let's all bust out our tin-foil hats! It'll go right well with your view that 'bush is the bad guy, Bin Laden we need to learn from'.

It doesn't matter if we are planting flowers in Iraq to make the desert into the next garden of Eden ! The point is that we being there is being used against us to further promote what Bin Laden is saying which is......
"See my fellow muslims with your on eyes ! I told you that all the Great Satan wants do is to wage a crusader war and invade our lands and tell us how to live and worship."

Guerrilla warfare is more then just blowing up trucks or taking down enemy soldiers. He is going after his fellow Muslim listeners and at the same time attacking what little support any leader in the "Coalition of the Willing" or those thinking about being part of this coalition has right now at home to cause them to back off what most perceive to be a American war in Iraq. To quote the great Sun Tzu's rule number five in his chapter dealing with offensive strategy
"5. Next best is to disrupt his alliances: Tu Yu: Do not allow your enemies to get together. Wang Hsi:...Look into the matter of his alliances and cause them to be severed and dissolved. If an enemy has alliances, the problem is grave and the enemy's position is strong; if he has no alliances the problem is minor and the enemy's position is weak."

He is attacking in two fronts here and not resorting to the usual Islamic banter here and giving credence that those who don't support this war will not be harmed but those who do will face revenge for their complicity in joining with the U.S. in Iraq and in other areas of the M.E.

Without agreeing or disagreeing with anyone about the subject... It will take several years for Iraqi oil production to become modernized and useable.

Yeah, it looks like the Muslims are putting down their guns. It isn't about truth, it's about perception.

Reread sMileyZ's post again and perhaps you'll understand the message.

Also, why are gas prices high? Ask yourself when the last time a refinery was built in the U.S. Also, look at current prices adjusted for inflation. They are far from record highs.

The Bush fanboys do not get it. Dubya did exactly what Osama wanted. Bin Laden predicted we would invade an oil-rich Arab country. The Dub blundered in to prove him right. It made Bin Laden look smart and powerful while we looked like the evil empire. Dub's adventure in Iraq helps Bin Laden recruiting and hurts America.

So, OBL knew that Saddam would have to be dealt with and predicted that the only way that would happen was his forcible removal from power. Yeah, if you were brainwashed into thinking the US is an evil empire I could see how that would make you want to follow a terrorist and blow yourself up to get your 70 virgins.

Al-Arabiya TV has said they obtained a new audio tape with a voice purported to be OBL.

Does anyone think that OBL is still alive, or is the voice actually that of Saad bin Osama?

Unfortunately I think this is true. We have to act in ways that don't reinforce bin Laden's message because all that does make it easier for him to increase his following -- and that makes it tougher for us.
