no doubt they come back? like their hoops team came back after the fab five fiasco? I'm not at all convinced that RR was the right coach for that team, and I'm 100% sure that, even though he's a 'spread offense' coach, he doesn't have the personnel to run it this year, yet he's still using it, with awful results.

This is the least talented Michigan team I've ever seen.

I agree. And I'm still shocked so many Michigan faithful are clinging to the idea that they will be back to where they were in a few years. The same people also thought Mich was going to be good this year, but instead they lose more games than they have in thier ~140 some odd years of football.

Rich Rod threw out a lot of long standing traditions at Michigan (fired the whole staff, all the way down the weight room guys) and basically threw out EVERYTHING and started like it was a new school having thier first season of football, not thier 140th.

I think this was a bad idea and Michgan may never actually recover, some of the long standing traditions that were around previous to Bo, Yost and Chrysler left with Carr. Mich still has a lot of sick records no other team will come close to any time soon. But without maintaining them year in and year out, will eventually lose them.

As some have pointed out, Carr may have had some bad years here and there, but he would NEVER lose to Toledo. He somehow managed to pull a 9 year win streak vs Penn State out of his ass, and even upset OSU on occasions when there were severe under dogs. I dont see Rich Rod doing any of the things. And now that recruiting is in the toilet, recovery is no where in sight. Mich should have promoted from within as they have always done.

There are so many things wrong with this post that I almost feel bad for the OP.

1. Rich Rodriguez is bringing necessary change to Michigan. The program had become soft and complacent. Too many entitled kids who thought they could walk in and play because they were highly recruited or because their dads played for Bo.

2. Rich Rodriguez didn't "fire the entire staff, all the way down to the weight room guys". He brought his staff with him. Why would he have Scott Loeffler as the QB coach? How does that help him win? Why would he keep Mike Gittleson, AKA Izzy Mandelbaum, as the strength and conditioning coach. Considering the shape that players like Justin Boren, Alex Mitchell and the rest of those tubs were in, everyone agreed that bringing in Barwis was the right decision.

3. To say that they will never recover is about as short sighted as it gets. Rodriguez is an excellent coach. Not only did he steamroll the Big East, but please keep in mind that his teams and system also beat Georgia and Oklahoma in BCS bowl games. Just try to objectively look at the QB situation. You have a transfer who has never started a game. He didn't come to Michigan to start. He came to be a lifetime backup to Mallett (the headcase who transferred to Arkansas. Your other QBs are a walk-on (who came to be a QB coach, not PLAY) and a true freshmen who is being converted to slot receiver. Couple that with the fact that they have one (ONE!) returning starter on offense (our Left Guard, who is out today) and that might help you understand why they struggle on offense.

4. How is losing to a MAC team (Toledo) worse than losing to a Division 1-AA team? I guess Lloyd would have never lost to App State too, right? I love Lloyd Carr, but looking at the talent disparate roster what would he have REALLY done with this team? Honestly.

5. I have to say, I think the "recruiting in the toilet" comment might be the most myopic of them all. Do you really know what you are talking about? Do you know about the players that are committed? You obviously don't. If you did, you wouldn't have jammed your foot in your mouth. Despite being 3-8 (with 3-9 looming), Michigan is putting together a top 10 class of recruits from all over the country (Florida, Oklahoma, Texas, California, Arizona to name a few). Next time, do your research before you spout off regarding something that you are so clearly ignorant about.

You really need to think about the past seven years. Think about the talent that Michigan has had all over the field and how little they have accomplished. If it wasn't for the bowl game against Florida last year they would have lost the last two games of the season four years in a row. Is that acceptable? Michigan had to blow up the country club and start making players work hard and earn their positions. The problem this year is that they are lacking in talent from graduation and early departures (mostly due to the coaching transition) that no one could have saved the season. Anyone who said that they expected Michigan to have a "good" season this year obviously wasn't paying attention.

I think what Rodriguez is doing is great. It sucks that this year has gone the way that it has, but what he is doing is absolutely necessary. Too many people have too much of their self-esteem and ego wrapped up in Michigan football. They needed this kick in the ass just like everyone else has gotten.

Go Blue!
