It has been reported/confirmed that a CH-46 like the one in the pic (and I crewed) has crashed. All aboard including a couple of Brits have lost their lives in the crash due to mechanical failure. The CH-46 is a Vietnam era helo and is slated to be replaced by the V-22 Osprey.

I hope they've got all the kinks worked out of the Osprey...I used to work near the Navy Test Pilot School, and every day when I would head home I would see the V-22 flying around. Also, we had a couple of briefings in the room that is dedicated to the flight crew that died testing the Osprey.

I couldn't tell ya. I haven't been in a frog in 19 years and haven't followed the development of the Osprey that well. Last I saw they were testing it again according to what I saw today when I found a Navy Times page by accident.

Unless something dramatic happens like The Iraqi Army just gives up expect hundreds if not thousands of Allied deaths. War is all about killing you know.

I bet you 1000$ you are TOTALLY and COMPLETELY wrong. Why would you think there would be hundreds if not thousands of allied deaths?

16 families may be without fathers and husbands tonight, countless grandparents without grandsons, sisters losing brothers. Our brave marines are fighting for freedom of the oppressed people of Iraq, and for the security of many millions of Americans, as well as others around the globe. Yet you stand and scoff, you laugh when these brave men fall?! I pity you, for you have no heart...

you should read the thread.

I did read the thread. There was no reason to say w00t period. I thought what Jimbo said about the Canadians losing their lives were equally distasteful. I made several comments in that thread to show my displeasure. I will do the same now. I think it was insensitive and stupid to celebrate the crash of an allied helicopter. Defend him if you must, but you did not see me defending Jimbo. I won't stand by while someone attacks those that have died in serving their country(regardless if they are American or Canadian).

Now you and Colt45 can kindly STFU and let those of us with family and friends in the Gulf go back to what we were doing.

Because 16 already die before any Iraqi fires a bullet. For anyone who think this war is gonna be cakewalk, you better think again. There is no certainty in war, there could be hundreds killed, there could be tens of thousands killed in this war....Vietnam and Korea are two good examples. That's why so many AMERICAN are against this war, when the Administration has not given a strong case nor evidence, only speculation of how much Iraqi regime is a threat to the US. That is why many of us prefer a diplomatic solution, and many of us prefer a coalition with UN backing and support from International community to minimize American death.

If you remember in the First Gulf War, more people died from equipment failures than enemy fire. It will be the same this time. Hey, there are chopper crashes whenever troops are moved(training, supply, battle). Your argument is going to be quite futile as it tries to make generalizations based on inaccurate statements. A majority of Americans are NOT against this war and it is a very small minority that think like you did. Stop saying many, when it is only a few.

You also need to check your facts because the Iraqis have been firing missiles, artillery, and bullets for quite a while.

Is it just me or do the Chinooks malfunction and crash and kill more allies and americans then enemy armies do? This is the 6th chinook crash since desert storm, all 6 out of combat. I hear the new Ospreys are no better... we need some more engineers.

I just heard on CNN that 12 british commandos and 4 US marines died.

Brits seem to have bad luck in kuwait/iraq. 🙁

First off US Marines do not use the Chinook, the Army does and is designated CH-47. The Marines use the CH-46 Sea Knight. It is a Vietnam era helo (yes the birds in the squadron I was with had patches down the right side from being shot) and is due for replacement when the V-22 is finally done with testing and built.

Thousands? We lost like 200 in the Gulf War. Most of that was from friendly fire. Granted we'll be going in a bit deeper, but don't expect mass casualties, on our side at least.

Neither do I.

I'm sorry for the men and their families involved, but fvck the cause they are fighting for.

If you were sorry you could have kept your personal opinion out of your "empathatic" statement. But since you couldn't, can you tell me the master plan Canada has to ensure they wouldn't be collatoral damage in a chem/bio attack on the US. I hate to point this out, but you guys are REAL close, seems pretty likely your border wouldn't be respected by some nasty bug or airborne WMD. Do you have some sort of way to seal your atmosphere and filter every bit of gorundwater before it touches canandian soil? If not you are welcome we are willing to sacrifice our lives for your protection, try not to forget we ARE your protection....

Check my fact? Show me one report saying those missiles and bullets are aiming at American. Other than a few missile landing in Kuwait hitting nothing, there hasn't been anything from Iraqis.

Oh and if you don't think many people think like I do, check out what's going on in San Francisco and around the US today, go out a little.

Equipment failure is unavoidable, but at least with international force, US won't have to do everything alone and won't suffer all of the casualties.

And for those who think this war is gonna be like last one, think again. Unless the entire Iraqi army just surrender like that, this time, US soldiers are looking to fight in the cities where bombing could cause heavy civilian death, to fight in narrow street where tank cannot get through, to fight in places where local Iraqis knows where to hide and where to ambush.

I hope this war is quick with little death, but I just fear that it won't be that way.

ONE REPORT saying there have been shots fired? LOL ok.

What do you think skirmishing is?

Man there sure are some morons in this thread tonight, bur you have to take the cake.

It is rumored that the Iraqi Republican Guard (their special forces units) are already negotiating surrender, which is why the main military bombardment they have been discussing hasnt already occured. There may not be much fighting at all.

Fine, one skirmish with no mention of the size of troop they encounter, if any shot fired, how many wounded and how many Iraqi soldiers captured, wounded, killed. But my point stands, the real conflict has not started, all your argument of how easy this war is going to be is totally baseless.
