DAMM! And its RIGHT near that same area where there was that big crash in 90. Wasnt there one is the eighties as well? I saw a history channel show about this, im pretty sure this is the same area. Is there a big paper-manufacturing factory around that area?

Yup, paper-factory is correct, IIRC.

Looks like I-75 has some fog related accident problems. I did a Google search to find out about this accident but found quite a few others for the same (I am guessing it was fog related) reason.

WOW. I am absolutely amazed that yet ANOTHER multiple fatality accident happened here. The history channel show that I saw reported that that paper factory emissions were contributing to the fog in a major way, but because of some political reasons they were not forced to stop....And now just over a decade later there is yet another acccident there. jeez, that plant needs to be SHUT DOWN if that is contributing factor in this case.

I've driven through there many a time and there are some low areas that can be really foggy in the morning under the right conditions. Of course there are also tons of signs warning you of this too, but I'm sure no one could be bothered to slow down a little....as usual.

I-75 does not mean "I can drive 75", WTF are people thinking??? You have to slooowwww down when it is foggy, that means everybody. Sure doesn't help if you slow down and somebody comes like a bat out of hell up behind you. If they were worried about being late, now it is going to take an eternity to get there...

<< That accident prompted Tennessee officials to install an elaborate fog detection and warning system on that fog-prone stretch of I-75 near the Hiwassee River. >>

Oh yeah....that'll help.

I'm pretty sure people knew it was foggy as visibility was reported as "near-zero" this morning up there. People are just too f*cking stupid to slow down....I'm guessing someone going way to fast for conditions slammed into the back of someone driving at an appropriate pace for that kind of fog.

Don't be too quick to judge... There may very well be environmental factors (rolling hills, sudden and dense patches of fog, construction, merging traffic patterns) that could greatly increase the risk of an accident.

True, people need to slow down in unsafe conditions, but there may be circumstances that aren't normal.

Another thing that bothers me about Georgia is the speed limit for semi's is the same as vehicles. I liked it better in Michigan where semi's are limited to 55 mph.

The latest news has it at 125 cars involved, but 5 dead.

Wright said 125 vehicles were involved in the pile-up, which occurred shortly before 8 a.m. just south of the Battlefield Parkway exit.

Some of the trucks ended up on top of smaller vehicles.

Authorities at first said 10 people had died, but later backed off that figure.
