But you are the one getting all defensive about it, and no one so far has called for your head.

Why not stand up for an innocent man against the tyranny of the whiny little bitches?

And dont be surprised to be called a defensive, whiney, little bitch. I just hope that that now these types of "phoney news / tragedy event" threads has the greenlight, that people wont be surprised to see a rash of them.

You've been here how long and never seen something like this???

This is not new.

BTW, I'm not whining. Nor am I bitching.

Edit: And I'd also have to say, if something like this was done about another attack in New York, the thread would be locked and the OP would probably get a vacation. Such are the double standards of ATOT mods.

Tough to argue with that.

I don't think I'm a humorless person, or easily offended at all (hell, I am a fanatical Howard Stern fan). I just don't find this remotely funny, and it will predictably be offensive and disturbing to some people. I think it's in bad taste and completely witless, so I still advocate a lock. I'm just waiting for someone to post a similar thread about the US, Canada, or even England - I bet it would lead to both threads being locked within minutes.

Right, sure they would. Just like threads slamming Christianity are locked instantly while threads slamming Islam remain open for business. Maybe in ATOT bizarro world but in real world ATOT the modding is predictably PC so I am actually surprised that you whiners have not managed to get this thread locked already.

It's not tough to argue with that at all. New York has faced a horrible tragedy at the hands of heartless terrorists. New Yorkers, Americans and civilized people around the world were deeply affected by this attack and consequently, sensitivity to jokes surrounding the tragedy is very high. Many ATers live in and around NYC and at any time many more ATers know people visiting that area. A fake news post would horrify many people and too many panties would be put into a twist to make such a joke funny to its intended audience.

On the other hand, Jalapa has not in recent history experienced a major earthquake. People from Jalapa are not likely to be frequenting this board, Jalapa is not a major worldwide tourist destination. Thus the number of people likely to be shocked and/or offended is quite low. That leaves a large pool of people to be lured into the "trick" of the OP and then hit with the punchline at the end. Some of those people will not get the joke. Some of those people will get the joke and laugh. Some of those people will get the joke and either shrug or shake their head at the apparent lameness of the joke. Like any and all jokes posted here, some are funny to most and some are funny to some. It is up to the readers to decide for themselves.

Should a joke not be told because it might shock or appall 1% of the population? The PC crowd will tell you "Yes", but I disagree. Taking offense at something has become something of a national past time - one that I have no time for. I do not see taking offense as a right, I see it as a character flaw - not in all cases, but in the case of a joke on an internet discussion board, abso-effing-lutely. The reason people don't tell jokes that might offend 99% of the population is because incurring the wrath of many in order to possibly entertain the few is a futile exercise.

Note - I am not going to go into the issue of people who get their news from a computer nerd "off-topic" forum and whether or not that has any beaering on the likelyhood of them being the ones to "fall for it" and whether or not "falling for it" is a good lesson in getting your news from a reliable news source.

Dateline: Jalapa, Mexico

A huge earthquake measuring 8.1 on the Richter scale hit Jalapa, Mexico at 3:00am local time. It is estimated that over two million Mexicans have died and over a million are injured. Many more have been made homeless and in need of aid.

The region is all but ruined and the Mexican government doesn't know where to start with asking for help to rebuild. President Fox has asked the whole world to please help in any way they can during what may be Mexico's biggest natural disaster ever.

Already, promises of aid are pouring in:

Canada is sending troopers to help the Mexican army control the riots.
Saudi Arabia is sending oil.
Other Latin American countries are sending supplies.
The European community (except France) is sending food and money.
The United States, not to be outdone, is sending ten million replacement Mexicans.
now that's some funny sh#t right there. i don't care who you are.

pretty lame joke. i actually caught on before the last line. it was the whole "european countries (except france)". Saw the lame neo-con joke coming a mile away.

where is this "no name calling" rule? i remember reading one that said we can't call each other names that refer to genitalia, but that's it.

Specifically female genitalia. Calling someone a piece of the male anatomy is perfectly acceptable. 😛
