Who ever said M&M's had a different flavor other than chocolate?
Fruit Loops markets itself with "Fruity Flavors". M&M's does not.

that's not inaccurate, though. The flavoring extract that is used for these would be some amalgam of various "fruit-like" tastes--probably something that evokes sweet and citrus.
so, you get multiple flavors in one taste, dispersed among all the loops. The people that design and market this kind of crap are pretty smart. Of course they knew that our brain plays funny tricks with color and taste, and they've known it for a very long time.
